Re: Adding and extra 1/8" plate to my boats bottom

Something you might ask about and consider doing that I've seen mentioned before. Take some steelflex after you straighten the bottom as best you can, and fill in and level the bottom with the steelflex, otherwise, when you add the new poly, it will still just form the same shape as the bottom with ...

Re: 6.0 Mercury Crusader

The problem you end up with using a marine specific engine with open loop cooling is there's usually more piston to cylinder wall clearance machined into the cylinders because they're designed to have a constant supply of cool water running through the block, which reduces cylinder expansion compar...

Re: 6.0 Mercury Crusader

I'm sure that being in the great white north your options are somewhat limited but 5k seems like a lot of money to spend on something you really don't want.JMO. especially if you have to sink more money into it for you to be able to use it in your particular application. Maybe some of the "Airboat ...

Re: What makes a purpose built Airboat motor?

What ever you buy, make it a torque motor. Not a horse power motor. If you buy a 600 HP @ 6500 rpm engine you will be lucky to get 530 at 5400. The LS376/480 is a perfect crate engine for an airboat. Chuck Its a nice engine for sure i run the 376/430 which is just a different tune and less cam got ...

Re: Considering buy a aluminum engine

The L76 6.0 motor referenced in my original post above, aluminum block is casting number 62152 and head casting number is 5364. head has square ports on the intake side, and on exhaust side ports are square at the bottom but round at the top. I will try and talk with Dave today about this project, b...

Re: Considering buy a aluminum engine

Some 6.0 truck motors come with the L92 head its a (LS3) head without the hollow valves that Tony mentioned. I have made over 600HP with them heads on several different dyno'es. (stock out of the box) However do not run the L92 6.2 truck motor. As I mentioned a 100 times I have seen a dozen of them...

Re: Considering buy a aluminum engine

I bet that engine you are considering will fit the bill. However, have you considered the throttle part of the equation? It probably has a fly by wire as opposed to the fly by cable option you have on your boat now and I imagine would like to adapt to the new power plant. Yes, I understand that is ...

Re: Considering buy a aluminum engine

i am attracted to this l76 engine due to the larger displacement and the all aluminum block. 5.3 engines are available, but with iron block and the smaller displacement, and at a lot lower cost (as low as $300). Bud

Considering buy a aluminum engine

Here we go again, not happy and problems with the pro built BBC from 2 years ago, most of you guys have told me all along to go with ls motor, considering this option: $2300 firm 07 truck l76 6.0 aluminum motor. same block as a ls2 but has the l92 square port heads on it. has vvt and dod. was told h...

Re: SBC 350 with overheating issues

you seem very concerned about possibility of cracked head/head gasket. might be worthwhile to have a local mechanic up there go over and do a compression test, that would provide good information. shouldn't cost over $100 and would save you a lot on gas if the 2nd boat isn't necessary.

From your description in signature about your boat, it is a Alumitech with Poorboys motor and rigging. If Poorboys did the set up and installed the radiator/rigging, I would be calling William and talking to him, I am sure he will take care of it.

Re: How to stop so much bow spray?

do a search for "hull jacks", they are set across the bottom under the engine area and put force down on the hull to help keep the dents from coming back, and can be used to push them out also. lots of photos of jacks on SA posts from the past, i think you will need 2 or 3 minimum.

Re: Motor swap!!!

300 hrs is very low, if taken care of and built correctly it should run as well as it did 13 years ago. do you have a belt or gearbox or dd, if a reduction of some sort will most likely have a lot of adaption to do on that end also, in addition to the motor mounts. you can get a used 454 chev pretty...

Re: How to stop so much bow spray?

if you dent is in the front of the hull, less likely to be a problem. usually the plowing more likely caused by a dent just ahead of the transom, doesn't have to be a big one, 1/4 or 1/2 inch dent across the bottom a foot ahead of the transom is significant.
