Don’t know the place, nothing about it. You say it’s been closed to AB for 30 years but that sure looked like an AB trail. Looks like somebody runs it regularly. Poachers? Authorities? Am I just seeing things?

Re: sv0540

Mine is harder to start when hot also. But it starts. Turn the prop by hand 5 min after shutting down and feel the compression. Mine is real tight. That being said, it should still start. A bit of resistance in the starting circuit will let it start cold but struggle hot. The trick is finding it. I ...

Re: Need Advice

Skunkape, I am sure you are right about the sound dampening of a Magnaglow vs a bullet. Especially on a reduction drive CM hitting 5000 to break loose and go. This guy is running a DD. At 2800 the prop will be the loudest thing even with a bullet. I have bullets run out the transom into the prop was...

Some do, but that’s not how most are. Too loud.

My point was that those are well made. You can use quality SS flex pipe and when it’s time to replace the flex, those will still be in good shape.

These are super popular around here and will outlast your stainless flex pipe by 3 or 4 times.

The flex pipe MUST be stainless or you won’t get a year out of it.

Re: Oil cooler lines

I use hydraulic hoses. Costs more to have them made but it is much less likely for the ends to come off and the hose itself is far superior.

Re: Length vs quantity

I personally switched from a 5 blade 70” warp to a 72” whisper tip on a SV 540. If there was any major change it was bottom end push. I wonder if anybody has run any 2 blade vs the Excalibur. Sensinich or Whirlwind. They are great people, friendly, do good work promptly at a fair price... but they a...

Making more sense now.

Sounds like you are just looking for low end push improvement. You are probably barking up the right tree, hope you find someone who has tried both for comparison.

Re: Length vs quantity

Any suggestions? Don't give a RIP about speed, just want push. What hull? How is it set up? What is a typical load? You have me wondering. An AV 0-540 set up right on a well matched hull will “push” well enough with any brand prop that is the right size. With the torque that motor should be making,...

Re: Tuning an o470?

John Fenner is usually right. As a rule, follow his advice. The only thing I can add is to be patient when listening to each adjustment. I used to think the effects would be instant and could never seem to get it right. I get much better results now when I lean it 1/4 turn at a time, then wait at le...

Re: Smoke!

1) you didn’t put a boot on right

2) defective (or more likely dropped) plug

Check the plugs. The culprit will be east to identify. Any doubt, change the plug again.

Re: O540 Parallel valve vs angle valve, which is the better?

Can he sv 540s run ground as good as the av’s? Looking to purchase the a/v, but people seem to say they are pretty much the same. I’m asking because on an outboard, 30hp is a noticeable difference through the whole spectrum. If you are buying a complete boat, the rest of the boat is the answer. The...

Re: Hull Size for 0540

X3. That is about perfect. I run a 12’ 8” x 7’ old school heavy duty Panther with a SV 0-540 and love it. Big enough to fish, small enough to run the hill with ease. Don’t worry about being a little heavier than some. As long as it is a rigid hull, the extra surface area on a big(ger) stiff hull act...

Makes sense. A lot of the noise comes through the flex. Muffle it first and it should be quieter.

Re: Aircraft mufflers

My port side is pretty tight also.

Solution was to bend the flex forward and a little under the motor first  then down and back up to the bullet.

That little bit more slack and she went on easy as the starboard side. :thumbleft:

Re: Painting over powder coating

Powder coat is one of the hardest coatings to adhere to. You can abrade it and get a bonding primer as a tie coat to create a mechanical bond. It will work.... kinda. When you bang it, it will still pop at the primer 90% of the time. Stripping it is the best way. Also, if the powder coat is chipped,...

I wish we could use testing, training, and practice instead of politics to find the best solution to this important issue. I don’t know if putting guns in a school is the best option. I don’t know that it isn’t. Do you? Really? I have always voted to support gun rights. But this is not the right vs ...

It has been holding steady for a long time but today I went to fill up at TICO and the price went down!!! Carsten said something about airboaters not having to pay airport fees. In a world where everything costs more and more all the time I was just glad to see it!!
