Re: LS mock-up block

I use the plastic ones from summit racing and believe it or not it has held up really good even with the heat from the welding. I was surprised it didn't melt but I've built a lot of rigging with it and it's hanging in there and it's light so it's easy to move around by myself.

Re: Stroker motor recommendations ??

Glen builds good engines I have quite a few on customers boats. Tristar engines builds good engines with a 2 yr warranty and turn around time is about 3-4 weeks. I have a few of those on boats as well. Those are the only 2 builders I have used and have no complaints from either.

Re: Prop and box combo? Sugestions?

2.7 or 2.55 are both good choices we just finished a boat with a 490hp 383 and we used a 2.55 Ox box and a 82 inch 3 blade r it runs great and it's a 15x8 with 2 ft rake and seating for 5.

Re: TORQUE brand gear reduction

From what I was told the gears are straight cut still but they are running tighter tolerances than the rotator. I will be picking one up as soon as I can get time to get over there and pick it up. I will post some news about them when we get a few hours on it. O ne thing about it Panther will be aro...

Re: Alternator?

That's a standard alt and they will work fine. I started using 140 amp one wire from summit racing they cost 129.00 but they work great and they have cheaper 70 amps. Just in case you ever need one

I don't think it's a one wire if it's got 2 places to plug into. It may help to post a picture of what you have

Oh and if you don't have a block for mock up I use a plastic mock up block I got from Summit racing it's about 10 pounds and since I am by myself most of the time I can handle it easily.

Re: stainless steel help please?

I use a millermatic 185 with .30 stainless wire and just go slow and as mentioned move from spot to spot with out concentrating the heat in one spot. I use a pickling paste when it's all done it will clean the welds up nice with little effort just brush it on wait about 20 minutes then hose it off. ...

Re: stainless steel help please?

Keith is correct We use 1 inch .120 wall on the engine stand and .65 or 16 gage on the seat stand with 7/8 16 gage on the cage. and 1/8 single strand for wire. Take your time welding it Stainless moves around a lot so move around to keep the heat from warping everything. Good luck with it.

Re: best 383 builder in central fl

Glen Treadwell in Lake County is who I use depending on the heads he uses we get 480 to 510hp. Never had a problem with any of the engines he has built me. But there are a lot of good builders around. Tri star builds a good 383 also and have a 2 yr warranty 3-4 weeks turn around time.

Spend whatever is comfortable to you. And call around even when you think you have a good deal, there are a lot of good builders out there that don't have the over head of the big guys and can build them at a better price and still give you exactly what your looking for. Just my opinion

Re: Decisions! White's Preformance 383 or Glen Treadwell 383

Tristar engines is another good builder if you are looking for a crate motor they have a 2 yr warranty as well. I don't want anyone taking my commits about Whites the wrong way they took care of the engine I took back to them and my customer in Texas is hard on it and it has held up with no issues s...

Re: Decisions! White's Preformance 383 or Glen Treadwell 383

There isn't a better builder in the area than Glen I have ran one White's engine and within 20 minutes it was spitting antifreeze out of every hole in it. That being said I pulled the engine off drove it 10 hours to Whites shop that night got there when they opened and they un loaded it and rebuilt ...
