Re: Engine choice help

Thanks for your response and suggestions. I'm most likely going with a local shop and will take your advise on the Felber cam and lifters. Its just hard arguing with a local motor shop when they all seem to know whats best. I'd like to have a good idea of what I want when I get there.

Re: Engine choice help

I'm in Texas and it would seem cost prohibitive to send blocks back and forth to Florida. I may be wrong. Also looking at the website, $8-10k is on the low end of engine builds. Add new reduction, prop, and your bumping 18K for a boat worth very little. Just trying to be smart about the hole thing. ...

Engine choice help

Looking for a little advise on what others think would be a good replacement route for my old tired 454. After reading the "Horsepower, Prop, and Dyno" thread in the Tech forum, I'm scratching my head on what direction to go. My current setup is an older 18' aluminum Panther/Dixie style hull with al...

Re: 2nd Split duck season

Had an awesome two days around Rockport. Fog both mornings but managed to still get out in time and hit a few birds. Wind stopped blowing out of the North for Sunday causing the water level to rise. Higher water seemed to scatter the birds for a lot of guys hunting back lakes.

Re: YOUR AIRBOAT

Kem 400 is the paint name. I don't remember the color but it was off the US Gov color chart. Its the same paint used by GoDevil and Custom Flats (Boatright) boats in Louisana. Its not specified for water use but has held up well in the past. The beauty of the product is no primer necessary. Wash, pr...

Re: Good Hunt rockport,tx 11/18/09-11/21/09

That's the guy. His name is Chris. I'm really glad my other buddies brought him along. He was a great help cleaning birds, helping me work on the boat, etc.. The other two jokers were really good at making sure the couch didn't float away. I guess I owed one of them, though. He took me on my first ...

Re: YOUR AIRBOAT

Thanks! Paint is a Sherwin Williams industrial product called Kem 400. Bought the rig a couple of months ago near Conroe. It was used for bow fishing an in pretty rough shape but ran good. Did a ton of work making it ready for duck season including the paint. Also rewired it using tinned wire, new g...

Re: duck shotgun

When hunting ducks, semi-auto all the way. Benelli M2's are awesome guns and if camo dipped will hold up to a harsh saltwater environment better than most. After hunting with both Benelli's and Berretta Extrema's, I prefer the Extrema hands down. Its a little heavier than the M2 and SBE but fits me ...

Re: Good Hunt rockport,tx 11/18/09-11/21/09

Please dont take what I said as being skeptic about the flounder. We just never catch many and if we do their in the 15" range. I think you have the right idea hunting around Seadrift or North of Goose. There is some great hunting around RP but also a lot of pressure at times. We've hunting a little...

Re: Good Hunt rockport,tx 11/18/09-11/21/09

I've never seen nor heard of a 30" flounder. We usually catch a few good trout in the winter towards the back of Spaldings. Its been dead for us trying catch reds. We had a pretty good mixed bag behind Fence Lake for the first two weekends. Good number of Widgen, Redheads, Pintails, and Shovlers. No...

Besides the Whitney dam and MCC boat ramp, what other ramps are available if you don't live on the river? I might be interested in running some this weekend also.

Re: airboat polymer

I just replaced two sheets on a boat I purchased recently. Found UHMW in Dallas for $188 a sheet of 3/8 - 4x8. They have most any size, thickness, color needed. Didn't think it was too bad compaired to Classic's $350/sheet and $140 shipping.

Thanks for the welcome! Here's my first question. The radiator is currently hanging form the cage above the motor. From what I've seen, most are attached below on the engine stand. Seems to be plenty of room for it be relocated below. Any reason it would have been placed above the engine? The boat w...

Justed wanted to introduce my self to the world of Southern Airboaters. I live in Waco, Tx and am new to airboating in general. After hunting on the coast for several years as a passenger, I've decided to take the drivers seat by purchasing a 18ft. boat. Its a '89 American hull with aluminum cage an...
