Adjust the torch for a moderate flame. You don't really need a roaring hot flame. I don't know if this is the best way, but it helps to have somebody lightly hold the wire down on the tube with a long screwdriver or something. Hey Bill,
I would respectfully suggest you consider discussing this with either Wayne or Bo Sage.
I know without a doubt that they both feel strongly any hull that they did not have a direct hand in building, is not a "Sage" hull.

Some have successfully used ty-wraps to compress the spring during assembly, in some instances. I have never done it myself. Twist tightened wire loops might suffice to compress the springs. Worth a try anyway.
