Logger Head Turtles

Postby Lakerunner » Sun Apr 03, 2011 4:36 pm

Gonna eat good tonight...A buddy and I caught a nice turtle in the swamps today. Nice way to spend a Sunday. We are only allowed one like this a day, so "IF" we had caught more, it would have been "catch and release"...LOL
Found us a little honey hole.

The only way to cook a good turtle....

It has been a while since I have seen one of that size... been out of the swamps for a while now.

We have several more. Keep them in a big tub covered with plywood. Gonna make a few more trips and then clean them all and put in the freezer. This is the biggest one so for.

Its a whole different world from Fl. You want see 15-20 airboats out riding around. You might see 1-2 at a time. People here go out in airboats with guns and come back with something to eat most of the time. We don't joy ride. We don't have chromed out boats. Our boats are for hunting, trapping and fishing. I wouldn't know what to do with a pretty boat. I'm too bad about busting through trees, cypress knees, logs and mud.
You go out here and you may hear several airboats, but you will never see them. Thats probably why we don't have all the muffler rules and flag rules you guys have. The game wardens might stop us once in a blue moon, but its to check and see what we have in the boat. (checking for over the limit on game and fish)....
Of course we don't have the open Everglades to cruise in. I'd love to take a ride in it. That place is soo pretty to me. I've only seen pictures of it.

Well we only got one small Snapping Turtle today. Not much luck, but the water was higher than normal..that makes it harder to find them.
