thinking about a ratio change.....

Postby jopete » Wed May 11, 2011 9:16 am

i had a 15' porier [sp] hull with a 454/2:1 reduction. ran ground pretty good, but i wanted more.
was going to switch gear ratio to 2.3 but got stabbed in back at work and sold boat to pay bills.

anyway, has any of you guys run a 14 or 15' workboat [robicheaux/porier type] with a ch-4 reduction in 2.5 or 2.6 or greater?

i may b wrong, but i would think a man could get away with a crate motor like a zz4 or so and still get stupid push on the ground with the higher ratio. i'm not woried about top end in the deep, on plane and stable is good enough for me.

is there a point where it will b too much ratio? my aircraft boat was like a sportscar next to driving the big bus with the bbc. lol

just seems to me that more ratio would be better than going with unreliable engine mods. maybe i'm wrong?

My sbc355 with 2.68box and 2blade super wide does very well on the ground with my 13.6 cottonmouth hull.
