AVERAGE AIRBOATERS FIXING TO GIT BURNED AGAIN?

Postby cowboy » Mon Apr 27, 2009 4:40 am

It is my understanding that a move is being considered by some of the FAA affiliates to advance a proposed State Law that will again discriminate against Airboats, and Airboaters alone.
I am talking about 90db @ 50 feet.

It is my understanding that the way the FAA was basically supposed to operate was this:

It is an affiliation of Airboating Clubs, Organizations, and Manufacturing Industry, who's mission is to advance Airboating Rights and Access for the Betterment of All Airboaters as a whole.
NOT as an organization dedicated to advancing Legislation that will put money in the pockets of several FAA Affilate Organizations!

I see any such proposal by any FAA Affilate Organization as a greedy power grab, that will be designed to throw large segments of the Airboating Community into the fire, and then force them to buy different propulsion equipment. (gear-boxes, props, and engines)

I have added a pole here for the Southern Airboaters to state their position on this issue to our FAA Deligate to Vote for Us.

I will also Start working towards lobbying any FAA Member Organization I can think of to NOT VOTE FOR THIS PROPOSAL, AND FOR THE FAA NOT TO SEEK OUT ANOTHER DISCRIMINATORY STATE LAW AGAINST AIRBOATS, NOR AIRBOATERS!

Southern Airboaters please Vote here, so our FAA Deligates will know how to Vote for us all when this issue comes up!

Cowboy you said it about right...only thing you forgot was to name the parties proposing this discriminatory action?
What I don't get is why seemingly intelligent people can just overlook recent actions by some central Florida counties? A couple of noise complaints, no citations issued, no noise documented in excess of 90 db and those in power chose to pose a curfew on airboaters.
If airboaters give them 90 db and the complaints continue, where will it end? I would rather fight and lose than just give in to their never ending attempts to remove a part of my culture. I believe that is what this is all about, the sound issue is just a convenient excuse.
Name them....I want to make sure they don't get any of my business!!!

I VOTE NO !! ON 90 DB'S @ 50 FT.

AND I VOTE NO !! TO THE MENTALITY OF OUR LEADERS HAVING THE ATTITUDE OF "WE HAVE TO GIVE A LITTLE TO GET A LITTLE IN THE END" WELL WE BEEN GIVING A LITTLE FOR THE LAST 30 YEARS AND WEVE LOST 10 X'S WHAT WE HAVE GAINED !! IF WE KEEP GIVING UP EVERYTHING WHAT IS GOING TO BE LEFT IN THE END WORTH FIGHTING FOR ?

THEY ASKED FOR PADDELS, LIFE VEST,AND WHISTELS.
WE GOT THEM!

THEY ASKED FOR MUFFLERS AND FLAGS .
WE GOT THEM !

NOW THEY WANT TO GET RID OF US TRADITIONAL AIRBOATERS AND TAKE OUR WOOD PROPS AND AIRCRAFT ENGINES SO WE CAN ALL HAVE COOKIE-CUTER CARMOTORS WITH GEAR BOXES AND CARBON FIBER PROPS AND FILL THE MANUFACTURES POCKETS WITH CASH !!

but the traditional airboaters will have to realize its time. It's 2009 and 18 million people reside in Florida.)

THIS STATEMENT IS A SLAP IN THE FACE !!! AND IF OUR LEADERS DECIDE TO SUPPORT IT , I WILL NOT SUPPORT THEM AND I WILL RALLY ALL THE SUPPORT I CAN AGAINST THEM..

TRADITIONAL AIRBOATERS ADVANCED AIRBOATS TO WHAT THEY ARE TODAY !!! TRADITIONAL AIRBOATERS WHERE THE STEWARTS AND PROTECTORS OF THE LANDS WE ENJOY TODAY !! TRADITIONAL AIRBOATERS PIONEERD AND BLAZED THE TRAILS WE HAVE TODAY AND TRADITIONAL AIRBOATERS BUILT US AND LEFT US A LEGACY THAT WE ARE GIVING AWAY TO THE ANTI'S EVERYTIME WE GIVE IN !!!!!!!

During the State Noise Testing in Ocala, FWC found that they could not prove 90 db at 50 ft.. There were too many variables. If the wind was blowing 10 mph, the db reading was about 4 db different on the other side of the boat. Other background noises also had an effect. At the end of one week of testing, FWC agreed they could not prove 90 db at 50 ft. For an officer to prove 90 db at 50 ft his certified equipment would have to include a db meter, a distance meter, a wind meter, and a computer to analyze all the variables. He would have to get these readings during the normal use of your boat, not staged at the boat ramp. Know One can ask you to run your motor wide open so they can do a noise test. Capt. Richard Moore of FWC said their officers would not be doing any noise testing due to not being able to prove the results. The Law is set so it should be left alone. Anyone getting a citation where a db meter was used should contact me at 352-330-1015.
Thanks, Chuck

THE QUESTION IS WHY ??????????? THERE ARE ALREADY MUFFLER LAWS IN PLACE TO BE INFORCED !!!

85 % OF WHERE WE RUN IS WILDERNESS !! THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A NOISE COMPLAINT ABOUT A AIRBOATER BEING TO LOUD OUT IN THE MARSHES OF THE ST. JOHNS OR KISSIMMEE RIVER OR THE EVERGLADES.. THE FEW COMPLAINTS COME FROM THE LOW % OF AIRBOATERS THAT RUN AND JOY RIDE IN POPULATED LAKES AND RIVERS THAT ARE FULL OF HOME OWNERS... WHY THE HELL WOULD OUR LEADERS THINK OF PASSING ANOTHER LAW THAT CRIPPLES THE MAJORITY OF AIRBOATERS SO A HANDFULL CAN JOY RIDE AROUND POPULATED LAKES THAT HAVE NO HUNTING OR CAMPING IN THAT AREA ANYWAY..

IVE ONLY JOINED AND SUPPORTED ONE CLUB AND THATS THE K.R.V.S.A. AND ALL THE GREAT THINGS THEVE DONE FOR AIRBOATING. THE NEXT CLUB I JOIN WILL BE THE AAOF IF THELL HAVE ME TO HELP SUPPORT A GREAT AND TRADITIONAL EVERGLADES CLUB. SO I HOPE AND PRAY THAT THE K.R.V.S.A. AND DANNY BRANTLEY WILL STAND UP AGAIN FOR THE TRADITIONAL AIRBOATERS AND HELP SHOOT THE IDEA OF PASSING THIS LAWS INTO THE GROUND!!!!!!.

I voted No and personally can't understand why a organization who claims to be for the airboater would even consider "ANOTHER DISCRIMINATORY STATE LAW AGAINST AIRBOATS"
.

Motorcyclist back in the 60's and 70's went through this same kind of c**p. It didn't matter if you rode on the street or in hare scrambles, motocross, or whatever. Noise restrictions, muffler and spark arrester issues, license issues, helmet issues and etc. At one time there was even a push on for license plates for off road bikes. Even those in sanctioned races. When riders started sticking together and showing up at various state capitols in mass and let the politicians that they too voted, the politicians started backing off. Riders even had the manditory helmet law (which had been pushed by Bell and other helmet companies) repealed. Bottom line was they stuck together....and still do.

I've only been an airboater, on and off for about ten years or so but I rode bikes back in the 60's and 70's and what is going on now is like a rerun.

I don't remember who it was but someone once said,
When you compromise on something you already have, you've lost
or words to that effect.

Ken
Compromise is failure on the installment plan.

Wait a minute. The FAA has NOT supported this proposed 90db issue--ALL they have done, as they are required to do, is ask their affiliate members whether they WANT the FAA to support this. The report so far has been, as here, overwhelmingly NO. But until the next meeting, and a vote, they have no position formally.
The truth is that certain individuals HAVE been beating the halls of the legislature talking about this issue---but it is NOT the FAA.

I think we need to have a AIRBOAT MAN MARCH in front of the state capital building :!: With the wright people in charge and this great website, we could make it happen, yes letters and E-Mails are great, but body's make more of a statement.
Sure glad you site supporters are keeping us well informed on these issues, some of us lead pretty busy lives and work 24/7 just to be able to run an AIRBOAT, so my hat's off to you guys that help in addressing these screwed up political issues. :munky2:

Yes Sir!
True this may be Charles.
I did not say that the FAA Leadership or Staff had taken the position to support a legislative effort for 90Db. @ 50 ft. Only that Certain Member Afflilates May Be Considering making a motion for the FAA to take this direction.

However,
I would think that the FAA Staff and Leadership would certainly have advisement for the Affiliate Member Organizations, on such an important issue such as the one we are discussing now.
I would be most interested to hear what position the FAA Leadership Staff has on this issue right now.

The average Airboating Family is counting on the FAA to do the right thing for the majority of Hard Working Airboaters when it comes to protecting their Heritage, and Airboating Culture in the Great State of Florida.

I wan't to hear if the Staff and Leadership at the FAA is going to reccomend that this proposal should even be considered.

To me it matters. It matters Bigtime.
I want to hear what their position is. It's just that simple.

Looks to me like all the other Southern Airboaters around here want to know as well.

Thank you Cowboy for posting this poll.
YOu are correct, Grprgtr, this has not been brought to FAA by any affiliate/delegate.

FAA represents traditional airboaters and we welcome this poll. FAA does not have an official position on this issue.

Earlier this session, tHere were a couple of "wanna-be" airboaters running around trying to get legislators to support this idea. THey tried to get Legislators to believe they were "leaders" of the airboating community and were speaking for all of us. They were looking to put this idea on a bill as an amendment.

There never got to first base because legislators saw through them, checked with me and learned they were bogus and without any credentials or support of traditional airboaters. If they had been the "leaders" of an organization, they would have to have registered to lobby and they did not. Actually, that's against the law to say you represent a group and not register to lobby for them. I just checked, and neither of the ones I know about are registered....You can represent your own opinion but you must state that it's you own opinion and that you are NOT speaking for any group.

Legislators, county commissioners and FWC knows who really supports traditional airboaters. Other lobbyists know also.

I am honored to be able to represent FAA and traditional airboaters. It is a trust I take seriously and try to fulfill everyday.

A true lobbyist will always voice the opinion and concerns of their client rather than their own personal opinion. Afterall, it's your money that's paying me or any lobbyist on any subject. I am always happy to give my opinion and walk through the "unintended consequences" of a position FAA is considering -- but when the votes are counted, those are my marching orders and what I may or may not believe is no longer a factor.

right now the Legislature is just tryiing to get a budget passed. This is the last week of session. WHile a march is sometimes a helpful tool, there are more cost efficient ways of making our voices heard.Being in touch with your own legislator whom you vote for --- when they are in their districts is the most efficient way to get an issue resolved in your favor. But the how do you do that -- is a topic for another topic.
The most important thing right now is to vote on this topic

FAA won't have another meeting before the Legislature adjourns, the "wanna-bes" have been sent packing --
Your vote should help to send them back where they belong.
Bondo

I was under the impression this issue had been voted on by FAA affiliates after the last leaders fiasco with the mufflers and flags??
Now I too would like to hear where the FAA stands!
I know some affiliates stand for themselves and their pocketbook and "traditional culture" be damned....I wan't to know where FAA leadership stands....if the leadership has no opinion....then the FAA still has no LEADERSHIP!
LETS HEAR IT!!

THIS IS A REAL SIMPLE CUT AND DRY TOPIC ..

WE DONT WANT THIS LAW TO EVEN BE CONSIDERD .. AND WE JUST WANT OUR LOCAL CLUB LEADERS AND OUR STATE CLUB LEADERS TO ENSURE US THAT THEIR ANSWER IS NO , THEY WILL NOT EVEN CONSIDER SUPPORTING THE 90 DB'S @ 50 FT.

ITS A SIMPLE YES OR NO POLE AND QUESTION AND I THINK WE ALL JUST WANT TO KNOW THAT OUR LOCAL AND STATE LEADERS WILL NOT CONSIDER SUCH LAWS.

WE ALL KNOW WHO THE REFRENCE IS "WANNA-BEES" AND IT VERY WELL MAY BE THEIR DOING TO TRY TO GET THIS LAW CONSIDERD , BUT I THINK EVERYONE JUST WANTS TO HEAR THAT THE FAA IS AGAINST IT , AND WILL STAND UP AND FIGHT FOR US AGAINST IT.

I of course agree with cowboy and the majority, i for one find it unlikely that any member of the FAA would vote to self regulate and discriminate against any airboat or airboater, every county and city in this state have noise laws in place currently, and they dont have airboat in the wording . when the state wants to get rid of the traditional airboat and airboater they will do it with emission standards, now thats what im affraid of and they want have to discriminate to do that, im just hopin for a grandfather clause when that happens. the wanabes are trying to sabatage true airboaters at every turn , they are judases and there agenda is to limit us period .but they will fail !
