Maybe some moose hunting pics soon as season closes up here on the 25th.
We're headed out this weekend for a week.

One morning fishing the Keni River, we put in at 4 am and by 6 both of us had caught 4 each between 40-50 lbs, released all 8. It can be great if you time it right, guides not allowed on the river until 6 am. Bud

I went up for 2 weeks this summer and it was not long enough. Went to Denali for a few day and then to the kenai and caught a pile of salmon and halibut then down the inside passage . It is so beautiful that I really did think long and hard about selling everything and moving there but the idea of the cold and dark winter got to me.

Winter is time to put away the boats and drag out the sleds.
Love cruising the powder as much as I love airboating. Like jetskiing but much softer and faster if you wish.

Does anybody have a cabin or something up there to rent for a week or so.

I would love to go up there but I wouldn't know where to begin looking for a place to stay and fish.

I wouldn't want to stay in the city anywhere, I prefer a small fishing village or private cabin on a lake or river.

Winter is when Alaska comes alive. After the last ferry has run and the termination dust creeps down the mountains. Thats when the residents come out to play. Fur Ronde is in Feb I think and theres always something going on. Just like Florida, Summer is just something to put up with. Cabins are great if you plan on being outside a lot. At those latitudes you need to get out in whatever sunlight is available. Sun on the skin produces Vitamin D. As long as you can find some sun and dress accordingly you can avoid cabin fever. I loved it. In my next life I am demanding to be borne in Alaska.

Stroker,
Need to be more specific in your request.
What time of year, what are you interested in catching, how much are you willing to spend, how remote do you want, etc....?
There are lots of flying services that offer remote cabins with a small boat on lakes and rivers, of course for a fee.
There are State cabins you can rent all over the state in cluding PWS for $25-$50 a night and have a water taxi run you out there for a nominal fee.
Narrow down your "vacation ideas" I am sure I can help you out.

My only problem is I wouldnt come back to Fl. I frequent Colorado, WYOMING AND Montana, have a hard enough time returning. Wife has even dropped hints of finding Fire/Ems jobs out there and having applications sent to the house.

Yeah you can learn to come back.... its tough though. Went first time in 86. Then our honeymoon in 95. Took till 03 to get back to hunt, and since then there hasn't been much more than a year go by without us going. Rough to come home, but look forward to retiring there at least 9 mos out of the year as the wife can't deal with cold at all

My son-in-law was stationed at Fort Wainwright in'99. went there in Sept. they lived in North Pole.

Watch out for the Moose, a 1 ton truck hit a moose, troopers and ambulance were on the scene but
that truck was totaled...they don't run like a deer...they stand in the road and dare you to hit them..

If the law is the same...in the winter if you come on someone stranded you must stop and help.

but it was a another world up there...stopped by Roger's auto service and saw Bobby back then

A mechanic was working on an airboat when I was there while raining and was freezing to the airboat.

you gotta be tough up there!!
