Its a davit with a winch on it, (folded down at the moment), used to pick moose/bear and drop 'em in the boat.
See Skip Olsen's photos for pics of it in use.

So why are all the hulls in Alaska aluminum? I am researching for a future build and everyone tells me that FG is the way to go b/c you can repair it and once aluminum gets dented it can't easily be repaired. This never made sense to me since all the boats I see around rocks are aluminum. Can someone please clarify? :dontknow:

Fiber Glass Wont Make It Up Here, There Has Been Guy Try it But There Boat Have Been Sunk In The Rivers And The Rivers Up Here Are Silty And If It Sinks In One Of Them Good Chance You Will Never See It Again, Aluminum One Might Dent But It Will get You To Shore Our Out To Where It Can Be Welded Our Repaired Fiber Glass Is Not Recommended Up Here.

PeaRiver;
It's the same were I live in Canada . There are some glass hull bass boats up here but the boats that see the rugged and hard service are Aluminum hull . They can get beaten and ugly and still stay in service .

So it's a matter of survival....not the best ride but a matter of whether you get home or not...right?

Actually, it is a smooth ride!
Unless your jumping 5' tall beaver dams, then she takes a little pounding. LOL!
