Knik ride to the Glacier with a couple friends

Postby bkmail » Sun Apr 21, 2013 6:29 pm

Took a ride up to the Knik Glacier witha couple friends and their boats.
Weather was beautiful, fired up the BBQ and grilled some dogs, checked out the icebergs and enjoyed a nice spring day in Alaska, 55* and blues sky's.

That is awesome! What are the chances I get to go for a ride if I come to Alaska? My wife's best friend is moving to Anchorage and we plan on going to see her this year. Also, I'm planning on doing some hunting while I'm there.

exxon, I have a bunch of video but no idea on how to merry it up to the internet. One of the guys we rode with had a GoPro and might upload something (Ak Grumpy in the blue boat).
Eazy89, No worries on going for a ride. Would love to take you out.

As for slick....hell ya it's slick! Cruising at 2800-2900 RPM doing 30mph is flat out cool.

What we need is to find a water/ice pathway from FL to AK !

I was thinking about that, but now sure how well I would fancy riding in near 0*F exposed. I'd take one of those heated cabs.

Very nice photos. I was wondering how long does your poly last running snow, and ice all the time?

Poly lasts a long time. My old boat had it's original poly I think....at least 10 years old that I know of probably more like 20 years.
Sharp rocks shaves it off, otherwise it's pretty tough stuff.

As soon as I figure out how to convert and edit my gopro video I will try to upload parts of it. Current video is almost 700MB  I am the one with the teal or blue/green boat (Ak Grumpy on another fourm that bkmail and I am on)

I'm going to hit you up on that offer. Do you hunt any big game? I'm planning on setting up a float or drop in hunt for caribou or something with big horns.

Ok, Lets see if this works. There were 4 airboats running together that day. One built by Alaska Airboats, 2 built by Skip Olsen of Fairbanks, AK and one home built using a dimondback hull.

Here is another part of the run. Covers some of our running on snow, ice and water and large sheets of ice in the river. The end is where we stopped for lunch.
