Do you have a ccp. I thought if you had a carry permit you can buy over the counter. I did it when I bought my glock 42

No I sure don't..been a cn since the 16th of November.. never had a problem b4 purchasing.. apparently the hold up is a disorderly conduct charge from 1989 & they can't find the final disposition..I fully understand the background check because of all the nut bags in the world but this is getting ridiculous lol

Even with CCP they are required to run your info! the CCP will allow you to purchase and take home a handgun same day but doesn't exempt you from a background check.

I have a ccp in Florida. I walked into a gun store and walked out with a glock. No waiting period. I think being that I have a ccp they know the background was checked. First thing I did when I moved down from liberal New Jersey was to get my ccp.

In the state of Florida a person who has a concealed weapon permit is exempt from the 72 hour cooling off period for the purchase of a handgun!

So get this, Deputy Sheriff John Doe gets off his shift at 3pm and drives to the local gun shop in his marked patrol vehicle, in uniform and wearing his duty pistol. He see's a nice small 9mm pistol that he feels will be an excellent off duty or back up gun. He makes the purchase and has his background check completed which comes back clean! DEPUTY JOHN DOE CAN NOT TAKE HIS NEW PISTOL HOME, HE HAS TO WAIT THE 72 HOUR COOLING OFF !

How freaking crazy is that shizt, and it can not be fixed by the legislature because it became law based on a constitutional amendment related to Domestic Violence and no one caught the glitch prior to it's passing. It would require a new constitutional amendment voted in the affirmative by 60% of the electorate casting ballots. So the state in response provides a discount to L.E. officers getting a CWP to attempt to off set this silly law.

Can't make this stuff up !

As he should. Deputy John Doe doesn't have any more or less right than anyone else in this state. So he can get the license like all the other CWL holders in this state and walk home with a firearm the same day with one or wait without one. It's their choice. They aren't above the law. They live by it just like the rest of us.

Guess I should have stated the gun I tried to purchase is not a handgun.. it's a .22 mag rifle my wife was getting me for Christmas..72 hr wait I have no prob with.. I've been waiting since November 16th..never a domestic or any felonies..this charge their claiming to be trying to get a final disposition on was a disorderly conduct charge in 89.. I've bought several guns in last 15yrs with no problems whatsoever until now!

I had an Issue few years back buying a glock at Bass Pro Shop in Savannha GA. I had bought long guns and Handguns from a different gun shop not a month before with no issue, but bass pro held my purchase for 7 days. First and only time I have ever had an issue and will not purchase another firearm from them or Cabelas. last Christmas I got my son a 12ga from Gander Mtn. in and out in 15mins. no telling what is going on in the system.

I disagree

The LEO CJST certification should meet and exceed any permit requirement on a 72 hour hold #onlyinfloridaLEOno gun4u

Shoot Im glad They don't get a free pass to buy firearms. Just cuz you are a LEO don't exempt you from being a **** bag.... plenty of them commit crimes however they get that blanket of the badge 90% of the time and most of their stuff is just swept under the rug or kept in house so to speak.

Hmm thing is I was told 11 days ago that they finally had all the information they needed & just waiting on a supervisor to review it..been told that several times since..now as she's looking at my info & status she doesn't see where or why I've been told that!! Sounds like a bunch of run around BS to me!

Don't believe I can while I'm under review idk.. thought bout that..but from what I've read all the stores Bass pro, academy, Walmart etc policies are the same.. won't release the firearm with a cn(conditional non- approval) in which fdle says that after the 72hr the dealer legally can release & if a red flag appears afterwards atf will come get the firearm..

Even with CCW, there's no guarantee. My brother and I got our permits on the same day back when they first became available, probably 20 years ago or more. For some reason, there's something in the database that holds up his purchases every time he tries to buy a gun. He's never been arrested, let alone convicted of a crime, yet gets kicked back. He's discussed it with a number of people and was told that there is probably somebody in the system who has very similar name and birth date that is not so squeaky clean that messes him up. Always ends up getting his gun but always has to wait 3 days. We recently bought 2 LCP IIs at the same time; I took mine home, he had to go back. Just the way it works.

I had a problem with purchasing with my CCW. It always got denied and then near the end of the time limit approved on a conditional. Went that way for years and then one time it went on and I called to check and the lady at FDLE said that she was trying to fix it. She somehow fixed it and I have purchased many firearms in the subsequent years with no problems at all.

I would mention that you want to fix this so that it isn't a problem in the future. It must be the inner boy in me. But, it is sad when you purchase a new gun and you can't take it home right away. LOL
