i agree with you my argument when they first started enforcing the (air boat) flag was we are already the most visible thing on the river and they just added to it maybe because we go down the (air boat) trails but this incident has happened to me to many times and I'm scared of the scenarios but maybe they could make air boat trails (AIR BOAT) trails and not let other vessels venture into those wooded blind trails i know if i was riding one there's no way i would go down any air boat trail that had blind corners during the day
i mean they have designated air boat launch areas why not designated air boat trails that way in the event that something did happen god forbid at least there will be something in favor of the air boat not totally being in the wrong like what will happen if someone gets hurt.

and before someone says this didn't happen in a air boat trail  if there was a law stating no skies in designated air boat trails then they would at least acknowledge to look out for air boats around blind corners.
there could be a collision

Watch what you ask for about a designated airboat trail. Sorry, this isn't a designated airboat trail, you aren't allowed. Sorry the airboat trails are closed due to low water, no airboats until further notice. See where I'm going? No more laws if we can avoid them. Read the navigational rules, those jet skiers could have been got for several things, wrong side of the river, not blowing their whistle around a blind turn, excessive speed in blind turns, etc etc.

Id say if we can just get the flags on the skis that would help us ,at least we can see them flyin thru our trails right before they go under our boats.but seriously all we can do is on the sunny days as we ride just be prepared on each and every corner ,we cant claim the river to ourselves its for everybody heck ive almost run over a few kicker boats also in my day ,and theres way more of them than skis out there ,The whole thing we need to do is take the precautions act as though there are skis or kicker boats comin so you can be ready to make the adjustment and control the situation safely .Drive with caution and comon sense and just slow our pace a little .I know i do :thumbleft:

I agree, although. They would never give us the trails. The flags on the airboats only helps if the people we become more Visible to are aware of the rules of the road. We need a way to see them and prepare for that next move.

This whole thing is crazy. The Thusday night Thunder thread better watch out. This thread quickly become more popular than a $2 hooker on $1 day!

yea this thread is not helping much , sort of a dead horse Dave knows where his problem started and that's after he brilliantly avoided a bad wreck just to let his temper put him in davy jones locker and putting his family in peril again..... I have always noticed that education is always expensive..... And Dave glad you and the family are ok :)

I agree on the flags of all vessels, but we can't designate Airboat only trails.. it will go just as yobee stated.. and as for a fish fry, I'm down for that just to get together but I'm almost willing to bet that his motor has been torn apart cleaned up and on its way back together already... "Most anglers fish in the canals rather than in the marsh. Anglers work canal edges with plastic worms, soft jerkbaits and minnow imitations. Flipping the vegetation is also a popular technique. During high water, some anglers will enter the marsh areas where bass can be found in the open slough areas. The L-67A and Alligator Alley canals have access trails off them that are specifically cut to provide boat access to adjacent marsh areas. Remember to display an orange flag 10 feet above your vessel when entering the marsh."

I was talking to Gerald, (newoldglory), this morning and he was telling me that in the glades FWC does enforce the flag rule for any boat that leaves the canals and enters the trails. I personally have come upon bass boats in the trails down there and just about every lake I've been on that has trails.

If the FWC can enforce the flag rule in the glades they should be able to enforce it anywhere in Florida.

I'm usually not for more regulaton but in this case I believe It's necessary to save lives. :rebel: :florida: :old_glory:

the rule only applies in management areas at this time ... no statewide requirement .. now whn I was a kid down on okeechobee wade fishing or in my kicker boat when I heard an airboat comin I raised my cane pole with a rag tied on it and waved it for a bit ... I never did get run over or even close to it. But I know some that did .. LOL

This happened in the st johns river which is a navigational waterway. I don't see them creating a law that mandates every vessle using it have flags. I do however agree that any vessel traveling outside of the "River Run" have flags.

absolutely correct qwik if everyone running outside the main channel should be defensive and should assume there's someone around that blind corner.
in reality thats all that needs to be done and everything will be fine i mean look how many years we've been doing this with out a problem

Well that is all true ... we been doing it a long time .. but times have changed .. there are more people out there these days with more powerful toys than used to be and less driving time than they need to be safe. So be aware is all that can be done ... That is why I often run at night .. it is safer to drive in total darkness with no lights than to drive in the daylight on a river .. or through a marsh with one lane trails ...

nope not fussin about any one type of vessel or any group of people .. it is just the facts ...

I have been contacted by a lawyer and a law enforcement officer and I have to make this post. I put my camera in a bag of rice and it's fine, my ECU (COMPUTER) IS FINE. All that was damaged was my gauges and ten or so gallons of fuel so the whole thing cost me less then $400.

I would like to thank everyone who has been kind and helpful. I have pulled up at least a dozen airboats that I never even knew the owner. I guess it does come back around so Thanks to the guy in the flats boat who took the time to tow me all the way in and would not accept any payment. Thanks to my buddies who helped me get her up so quickly.

See you all on the marsh soon. But not on the keyboard!
