I've been out of the country in South America training Airboaters and have not had a chance to log in here for a while.

First, I am very grateful that Waterthunder and his family were not injured in this incident. THAT is the most important point at this time. I would attribute good airboat operating skills and immediate "thinking" about what to do on his part...GOOD JOB WaterThunder!

What truly concerns me is the fact that PWC'ers areapparently becoming more of a problem when running in the same areas that airboaters are running. That's what I am reading here...not just one isolated case, but you guys are mentioning it happening to you over and over and over.

There is power in numbers and if the PWC'ers are actually causing this problem OVER and OVER and OVER, there could be a solution by this Airboat Community!

Young PWC'ers take their training on-line; that is minimum State Law. They most often get their hands-on training on open bodies of water...not the marshes. Why can't Southern Airboat Members put together a petition to the State to CHANGE THE ON-LINE curriculum to include and emphasize HOW TO NAVIGATE in a trail or narrow, constricted bodies of water?

ON-LINE Training is a "living document" and only takes an web manager a few key strokes to make changes in training scripts. If they want to be creative, they can illustrate these "right-of-way" rules so make them even easier to understand.

On the other hand, it often takes multiple accidents before any politician/law maker really starts to pay attention and would even be receptive to making any proposals in making new laws.

If Southern Airboaters want to change the law, you are going to have to start a support group and address the problem, being very specific what is happening, and joining together in good cponstructive ideas. Incidents of this nature also need to be documented...not just hear-say.

If a new law would be legislated, THEN the PWC'ers could at least be charged with an infraction...BUT there would have to be a Law Enforcement Officer around to witness it. Unfortunately, that represents another issue!

Come up with some "sound" ideas that can correct the problem. I'd rather have a group of Airboaters propose a law than some politicians who have never seen an Airboat!

best airboat law is no new ones .. last time FAA tried to get a law passed we ended up with flags ... regulate all watercraft as equals ... no problem. I think they should let jetski's run at night ... call it chlorine for the gene pool bill ...

It's pretty sad that a guy sinks his boat and takes his family out danger and someone thinks its a joke.

The serious part has come and gone.. the family is ok, boat is back together, and was at the races from my understanding.. when you sink a boat all you can do is laugh about it after everyone has been notified as ok.. if you just get pissed it makes for a worse time anyways.. its all fun and games.. that's what makes SA..

Glad all is OK Dave, and reference to Jet Skiiers..... I have had my share of them. And unfortunately it is gonna be like everything else.. No seatbelts was never a problem until someone was seriously injured or killed, Texting on these new phones was never an issue or law until a teen was seriously injured or killed, not reporting a missing child IMMEDIATELY was not as big of an issue until John Walsh... very unfortunate that it will probably take a jet skiier getting seriously injured or killed and a new law or restrictions will flow down like an avellanche..

Y'all get my point...

well seriously ... why do we need laws for seatbelts or running jetskis at night or helmets on motorcycles .. suicide should be a viable option .. a matter of choice as long as it only hurts you yourself personally .. really ??? we need to make a law so we can fine you for it when you fail .. ???
