Dangerous sign on Lake George

Postby Southern Predator » Sun Aug 05, 2012 10:17 pm

While on Lake George sat night we came across a family on (or actually off)an airboat out in the lake.We stopped to help and found out that they had hit the old broke down sign between blue creek lodge rd boat ramp and juniper,it ejected everyone from the boat and sliced open the bottom of his hull.we took the women and children to the truck while him and his son limped the boat back, with the exception of being very shook up and some bumps and bruises ,everyone was ok.That sign is not easy to see and is very dangerous,it cosists of 2 telephone poles, abig metal resume normal speed sign and 1/2 inch all thread sticking up about 4 inches! When we get back out there we will be taking the tools/equipment we need to try and move the sign to shore out of the way, until then everyone beware! This could have been alot worse as he had two small children on the boat when it happened about 10:00 sat night.

My first thought was to call the FWC , but nope ..... I'd call the USCG and tell them that you'd like to report a navigational hazard.
Lake George comes under their authority as a navigable waterway , and I think they'd probably get on it quicker.

What might help is to post the GPS coordinates of the sign so folks running the area can put them in as a way point and label it a Hazard. I know not everyone has GPS but a LOT of folks do and it could sure save someones day ! Or Night ! Just a thought.

IN FACT: What do y'all think about a new TOPIC Navigation Hazards for listing GPS locations and a short description and maybe a photograph............... For those who actually plan trips the GPS points could even be notated on Google Earth.

I agree, a topic on nav. hazards would be awesome. Pics and GPS coords. should accompany any postings.
