Sunglasses 50+ Crowd

Post by kwanjangnihm » Sun Jan 18, 2015 4:44 pm

Always wore cheap sunglasses ($20 or less) but treated myself to a pair of Costa’s a year ago. Costa 580 blue mirror (superior contrast & color in full sun). Well after a year I can say I just don’t see well through them and it actually blurs my vision a bit. This model has plastic lenses.

Question to you guys – what sunglasses are you using and how clear is your vision with them? I wear OTC glasses to read or see close things but can see far without issue. (will be 54 soon) Thanks for any input!

I personally like calcutta's. Relatively cheap 20 to 60 bucks depending on model. Fit my fat head, polorized, and last a good while.

The Costa glass are much better than the plastic ones but cost twice but worth it, I had pair for years they stand behind their warranty :thumbleft:

I agree with Bigun. Only ones I wear are Costa glass lenses and if I have a problem, even ones I created myself (like scratch the lens), I send them back to be re-furbished. They often will replace lenses no charge if there is a warranty issue on the frame. Even when I have had to pay, I don't think I've ever paid more than $35-40. I'm hard on my sunglasses. Costas cost a lot up front but worth it over the long haul.

If you have Mirrored lens it will cost $90 for replacements. They will not replace just one lens. The Rubber has been replaced 3 times in two years on my Black Fins. I bought Walmart brand for my son when we go into the springs and they work just as good. The Costa Frames are made in Taiwan as well!

Another vote for Ocean Waves. I had a pair for 10 years then I broke them, my fault, and I went to the store in Jacksonville Beach to get a new pair. They replaced them with a new pair for $65. They are the best fishing sunglasses I've ever owned. I also have Costa's and Maui Jim's but the Ocean Wave backwater green are the ticket where we fish

I have been wearing a pair of Oakley crosshairs for about 3 years now and love them they are plastic lenses but don't seem to get distorted vision out of them and they wrap around quite a ways

Out of my league. I use the 3M sunglasses from Home Depot for about $10. Replace as necessary.

I understand what he talking about with the vision. If you wear glasses to read and you use some of these cheap sunglasses they seam to bluer the vision now.
Mine are made by Edge Eyewear.

Found some fantastic new sunglasses. Polycarbonate lens. Dollar General…$1.00 + tax. Made by Ching Chang Charlie from China. Bought a couple of pairs.
They're all made in Taiwan or Mauritius.

I wear my prescription glasses. They're transitions; so no clip-ons or separate sunglasses necessary.
