Am I the only one who kinda likes the sound of a waprdrive?

Post by GeeLeDouche »

For the most part I cant hear my prop spinning at all because of my open headers on my 0-470 but when I drop it down below 1500 rpms I can finally hear the swarm of bee's from of my little 4 blade warpdrive. I kinda like it. am I the only one? :D

You're kidding, right? And you've probably blown up more than a few speakers listening to AC/DC ?

What I really like is sitting on plane and talking to the person next to me, or pulling into a marina and having folks tell me they didn't hear me come in.

I find that warp drive sound annoying, but thats just me. Kinda like scraping fingernails on a blackboard. I have no ill will to those who like it, but its just not for me.

I think its the greatest prop ever made.I've seen starters, cooler lids, cans, shirts, towels........you name it go through a warp drive ,and guess what,it still makes that reassuring buzzing sound..and if im not wearing hearing protection,i hear it after i shut it down.its kind of like it's still telling me " don't worry, ill get you home,no matter what"

I deal with the noise to have the prop of choice on my boat. An old man used to run a 4 blade on a 200 angle valve and would swear its the best prop made. Nothing is as smooth as a warp and I would not trade it for anything.

Not my Idea of fun. When I get off a boat with a warp drive my head hurts for hours from the sound. I think the new technology in wider props is a better choice for your ears, and better for the perception of our sport. Sometime Loud has a cool factor to some people but In my opionion it has more of a negative impact for all airboaters. Bigger props offer more air at lower RPM = Less noise and easier to move on dry ground and lower RPM cruising. If we don't work together to keep the sound at a respectable lever, we will be fighting to keep them in your state next. Starting with Mufflers.

However, you have the right to run what you want. Just giving my 2 cents.

I have run a warp Drive prop on my Boat every since I owned one, which has been about 20 yrs.
I love the way my boat sounds and performs. I have also had other people tell me my boat is the guietest
boat in the bunch of boats that we are running with at the time, and they are all different props in the bunch. And my wife tells me that on other boats that she has rode, those props make a thumping sound to the ear.

Yeah.hunting favor eggs in Louisiana about 13 yrs ago starter came off one of our boats.boat was a 12ft sage with a built 260 turning an 8 blade.cut both wires and only put a few nicks in a couple blades.the foreman stood on the front of grants boat and hand propped an o-540 with an 8 blade.the man will always have my respect,as will a warp drive

Yep best sound there is. Especially in the glades. If grant was still here he would prob reference his video he uploaded years ago. You can have your harmonics, creating wide blades. I'll stick with my smooth running warp that doesn't get water in it.

helms you make a VERY good point. Airboaters don't have the same lobbyists and lobby relationship with the law makers the Motorcyclists do at both the State and the National level. The motorcycle Lobby is close to the NRA but still way more gun owners than bikers. But bikers do have the inside track. Airboaters are a small segment, very small.
