best prop for o320

Post by Rabbit86 »

Whats the best prop for an o320 (supposed to be 170hp 9:1 pistons) on a 12'gilleo hull. Mainly concerned with running ground. I'm currently running a 68x34 florida air prop and it runs ok just think it could be better. Any info is appreciated

68 or 70 powershift cypress blades, ive tried the powershift & whisper tip narrow & I think the powershift pushes better on ground, jmo!

I run a WW 68" Cypress Series. Excellent low end push. Zero problems running dry ground. But you will lose top end speed IMO.

Running a 320 with a 360 ma4-5 and a healthy cam spinning a 70" 3 blade h series sensenich. Loving this setup so far, smooth running with great gas mileage and haven't been stuck anywhere yet.

68" WW cypress on a o-320 AV 170. 10'-6" taylor sled runs the woods no problem great push as mentioned above but loud with more "womp womp womp womp" than a swept tip prop like a whisper tip. Great prop and great service from Water Walker.
10'6" Taylor Hull. Lycoming 170 hp - O-320 w/ 480 AV jugs

I'm getting a top speed of 45 mph (WOT 2900 RPM) in the skinny water so if im losing out on top end speed im fine with that! :drunken:

Put a 70" NGH and you will gain about 5 mph on the top over a Q. It's also going to push just as good on the ground. Iv been stuck with a Q twice never with the NGH.

Terry (PTR) I am getting ready to set up a similar type boat w/the same engine and had the same question. After everyone raving about the NGQ's I was curious as well. You feel the NGH pushes and cruises better or has more snap/speed? Thx!
