0540 prop Q/A

Postby mrbill » Wed Jul 30, 2014 7:37 am

I have a 2006 13' diamondback with a 0540 about 280+ hp running a 3 blade sec h 72" prop. Was thinking of a whisper tip 2 blade 74" been told this is a awesome prop for my boat but for I start messing with it.I thought id get some in put from others !!! What other props are as smooth with good push and nice cruise but still have some speed to hang with my friends that run big v8 motors !!!lol !!

A 3 blade H is one of the faster props out there. Going to a 74" whisper tip is only going to help on your low end grunt. Along with the Q it has nothing to offer on the top end. I'd try a 3 blade NGH, the blades are 1 1/2" wider than the H. You already have the 3 blade hub so it could be a inexpensive swap.

I have the same boat/engine as you. It came with a 74" Q series 2-blade prop. that made a lot of high end noise and was only fair I would say. I just upgraded to a 74" NGQ 2-blade prop. and the performance is much better; gets up on a plane faster, with faster cruise. Fuel economy about the same. The engine is pushing a little harder; seems to run a few degrees warmer, but only up to about 145 degrees with ambient temp 90 degrees, cruising. Hope that helps some.
Spent most of my money on women and rum; the rest I just wasted.

I lost some top end speed when I went from a 72'' 3 blade H to a 72'' ngh, now I have a 74'' 2 blade Q and has great low end but no snap or top end so it's for sale and I will find something else

The NGQ is an 1 1/2" wider than the Q. Better lowend and better cruise! I had my wife, both kids and myself which is 685LB plus full take cruising deep at 1,650 rpm. That's impressive!

you should try the ngq and let me know who it compares to your prop, I have 2 jacks and lost over 10 mph top speed when I bolted on the Q
