220 gpu prop going quiet.

Post by jeepinocala1111 »

I have a 72 water walker the pitch is maxed out and then some I do not want to go any larger I am just thinking of going quieter but rather it not needed to be maxed on pitch. I had a q series in mind but do not want any of the props with the little bent tips I just think those are not going to last. Any help on what , where , about cost of , and what is my prop worth as a fast sell giving a good deal to somone its in very good condition?

quiet is great, but do u lose push? gonna be loud when u have to call your buddies to come drag u off a spot where a loud prop with Push would of just rolled over.

i would think if there was a prop that did everything we would all own one.

i got some version of a whirlwind prop on my gpu. no winglets, it's loud, but it runs ground like a tractor.

i just put mifflers on my gpu boat. now you hear the prop and valves alot more. lol

I think the usual price for a 72" Water Walker in the classifieds section seems to be $1000 - $1300 depending on your leading edge condition.

That's good mine is like new so when I am ready if I can count on a quick 900 that will help.

I am just afraid in 5 years that little winglet will be worn or damaged it looks like a weak point.

5 years is a long time. every couple years i send mine back and have them checked out/reconditioned/balanced just for peice of mind.

i'd be willing to try the quiet blades when my current blades give up. If there were issues with them we would know by now. alot of people are running them.

i drove all afternoon on some rough seismic trails through the swamp today and man i can't say enough good things about my little gpu boat. only had to get out 1 time to get unstuck.
drove my deckover all friday morning, it's got [3] sensinech H blades i think. the boat has crazy top end. they are not too loud either. it's got good push too. not a swamp boat, but great ride boat.

let us know what you end up with and how it performs.
good luck!

The NGQ has strong push and is very durable.

The Q blade makes a hell of a lot more noise fyi.

On my boat with mufflers and the NGQ we ride without earplugs and hear the engine hummm!

i assure you that you arent maxed out in pitch with a 72 sig on a 220 you can add some more to quiet it down if you're turning it too hard

that is over pitched how many rpms, how wide is the prop at the widest point the cypress is 10 inchs and the sig is 11 in a med hub 9 inch the sig would be 72 end to end the cypress 68

My suggestion is to find something with a wider blade. Im very surprised that your 220 will max that prop out. That must be 1 rank motor!

I redone the top end about 6 months ago it runs great turns right around 2800 rpm and gets there fast. I put dome top pistons in it cut the tops to reduce compression great engine I want to force it down to 2700 rpm with my next prop. I will measure the prop tonight I seem to think it is around 12 inch wide it will run dry with 4 adults in it I have one more set of pistons new but was thinking of building a 4 cylinder with them.

How many inches long is the hub? Or do you have a pic of it?
Given the overall length less the hub size would help identify which blades they are.

Twelve inches wide sounds like a Falcon but they would be longer than you describe.
That would seem to imply that they are Power Plus blades, but as far as I know it
would seem unlikely that you would be overspinning those either.
I am really curious myself, please let us know when you find out what they are.

Congratulations on your build. If you're gonna have a problem, this is the kind to have. :)

For the guys in this situation, and not wanting to utilize the winglet tipped blades, we generally just make the same blade just without the winglet and then put them in the next longer size hub to get the diameter back to the same length. Longest diameters available once the winglets are trimmed in a 2 blade configuration is 74" and 68".
You can then at least benefit from having a wider blade to better absorb the power, and with the agresive sweep of the blade, you will still see a nice level of noise reduction.

Here is the hub. I am guessing it is around 8 inches long it is not the size of the starter gear just the picture was up close.

Looks like a short hub to me, which makes a whole lot more sense than your ground power spinning a 72 inch sig pitched like that. I still find it hard to believe you need that much pitch with a 10:1 ground power and a 70 inch sig. But put a medium hub on it and pitch it like that and it'll choke you right on down.

Agreed,, that is a short hub,, if you have the room to run a medium hub I would try that before switching props entirely.
