Prop Dealers
Sending my Excalibur blades out to repair some minor tip damage. Want to try either a Vortex or RazorX while they are gone. Thinking along the lines of 5 or 6 blades, 70 in. PM me your contact info if you have something I can try.

Re: Prop Dealers
That's true but neither incident was due to me. As far as this incident, most people would let it go. I've seen far worse on many boats. I lost maybe a quarter inch off the tip of two blades.getchasumairboats wrote:You have been through 2 props in a year lol now ya wanna test someone else's lmao

Did you have a warp on your sled when you got it?

Re: Prop Dealers
No. This is the first issue with my sled. Getchasumbrains is talking about two different incidents, two different boats. First one, put a new engine on my boat, installed and pitched prop. My mechanic left a rack of sockets sitting on top of the motor that went through on first test run. That was on my DB and was a 4 blade 82" NGR. Had a Q on my sled before I swapped out my 320 for a 540. Installed a bowtie Excalibur. Let my 17 year-old son take boat out New Years weekend and came back with tips knocked off two blades. Stop on rudder was bent over and blades hit steering rod. Most likely, somebody blew the sheet out of my rudders. No way son pushed the handle that hard.

Re: Prop Dealers
I feel for ya Diggin. Especially when someone else is to blame for your misfortunes. Might wanna try a 6 blade warp on a double hub. Off set blades with slightly different pitches. Set up like a 3 blade bowtie if you could imagine. My boy runs one set up like that on his boat, and it pushes like Ndomikong Suh! and it tops out over 65mph easy. And it is on a GPU. A dang GPU! Imagine how that set up could run on your 0540. Why hell, you could reclaim your reign as the 'King of the Glades'.

Re: Prop Dealers
My engine is making close to 300 HP (SV 540 with 10:1 pistons and 290 cam). I'm trying to get away from a 72" prop since I'm currently pushing the limits at that length. Would a 70" Signature end up being over-pitched to handle that kind of power?plumcrazy wrote:Let me put a signature on it

Re: Prop Dealers
Is that to say that 72" is at the outer limits, cage wise ?digginfool wrote:I'm trying to get away from a 72" prop since I'm currently pushing the limits at that length.
Plum may know better, but I would think a 70" three blade would be perfect.
I've run a shortened 3 blade Signature on a Cadillac, and it was an animal.
Those were made for that effort, but I'm sure Plum could set you up.

Re: Prop Dealers
Yes. We put a dogleg into the steering rod to make the clearance along with a stop on the rudder to fit the 72" I have now. I had a good inch of clearance from the rod unless pushed too far to the right, thus the stop. Unfortunately, the stop bent and allowed the rudder to go too far. We're going to put a longer dogleg in it this time to stop that from happening again, as well as a stouter means of making sure the rudders don't turn too far.Deano wrote:Is that to say that 72" is at the outer limits, cage wise ?digginfool wrote:I'm trying to get away from a 72" prop since I'm currently pushing the limits at that length.

Re: Prop Dealers
if you have 300 hp a 72 inch 3 blade sig would climb a tree
Re: Prop Dealers
put a 68in 5 blade and put some pitch to it, she'll run. You still got the Q and what size was it.

Re: Prop Dealers
The Q is only a 68". It would never work with the 540.

Re: Prop Dealers

If you still got the Q maybe we can work a deal for the 5 blade that you see in the pic, 68 in 5 blade razor X that was on my 0540, I ran it on a 10/1 and 12/1 motor, I sold this boat minus motor and prop, I need a prop for my kids boat I just finished.

Re: Prop Dealers
i will agree with you that it is smart considering your past prop experience, to use somebody else's prop for as long as you can. wish i had thought of that

Re: Prop Dealers
I know, most everyone is thinking the Cypress blades are for those little 4 bangers.
2 Blade 66 inch is for 150 HP = 75 HP per blade @ 66 inch
2 Blade 68 inch is for 175 HP = 87.5 HP per blade @ 68 inch
2 Blade 70 inch is for 200 HP = 100 HP per blade @ 70 inch
3 Blade 70 inch @ 100 HP per blade = 300 HP. 3 Blade 68 inch = 262.5 HP ( perfect for SV 0-540 and DD Caddy )
Shorter Props let you lower the engine stand and give you a lower push point which we have seen benefits.
I bet if you try it and don't like it, Andrew would give you your money back if you don't damage the prop.
