68 NGQ PITCH & RPMS
Got my 68 ngq prop put on today...pitch is set right on the #3 mark turning 2740 rpm on the water at wot....boat runs really well at that setting....my question is am I out of the "sweet spot" as far as pitch and would I be better off taking a little pitch out and bring the rpms up closer to 2800-2850 and the pitch closer to the 2 1/2 mark....I have been told that on the shorter props that if you have to put the pitch over 2 3/4 mark to bring down the rpms you are just slowing down the engine and not gaining any more push

Well old school is 2800 on everything But to do it right take the S/N off the motor go to there web and look it up. My 520 is 2650 - my 470 is 2800 - and the 320 is 2750 and thats was where they run the best

Every boat is different. And every person has a different opinion on how they like there boats to run. Best thing you can do is take your torque wrench Out with you and try different RPMs and see where you like it. I have a 74" NGQ on my 540 I turn it 2900 I've tired it from 2700 all the way to 3000 RPMs where I have it set I like it. Every boat is set up different theirs not one sweet spot for each prop.

Go ahead and get the longer hub. Sounds like you have plenty of motor for it!

I will add that, given other things being equal, diameter will trump pitch where all out thrust is concerned.lariat wrote:Go ahead and get the longer hub. Sounds like you have plenty of motor for it!
Whoever is hesitant to believe that, may consider how many big helicopters they've seen with a six foot rotor.

Stephen, I also had the Q blades and the wide whispertip on my 200 both at 70" and I can honestly say that on my particular setup the NGQ 68 was significantly better in every way especially the throttle responce....I stayed with the 68" on my little sled ...I was able to set the pitch at 2 1/2+ and turn it to 2820 with a digital tach wot on the water...I especially liked the quick throttle response of the 68"...I must admit I did not try the 70" so I cannot honestly say if it would be better but i was so happy with the 68 i just kept it...like the guys said before every boat and engine combo will be different so the 70 may work better for your setup i don't know but i can tell ya for sure the NGQ 68-70 is the prop to use on our 200's no question!!FLboy200 wrote:Hey GMAC76 I'm new to the site but also have a 200 that's going on a 13ft ricochet an I have the Q blades now but was woundering how the NGQ would do with that set up.
