Warp drive pitch

Postby RickMc » Tue Feb 13, 2018 8:38 am

I have a 12 Ft Fiberglas boat with poly. It has a 320 conversion Lycoming. It has a 62 in 4 blade warp drive. I have it pitched to turn 2900 on the trailer. I’m looking to get the most push out of this setup. I hate getting stuck. Would adding mor pitch help? I’m under the impression the warps like higher rpm. Am I thinking about this wrong? Thanks Rick

Your biggest gain would be getting a better prop. My buddy had the same engine and prop and it was a whole new boat when he went to a two blade. Something about the 4 blade warps and 4 cylinders doesn’t work well together apparently

A friend of mine was cruising barely on a plane when his 4 blade warp blew apart, called warp and sent him a new 5 blade for free, blamed it on harmonics. If it was mine I would put a Water Walker Cypress series on it.

I pitched it 2 more deg. now at 18deg at tips. It brought my trailer rpm down to 2750 and cruise down to around 2000 in deep water and 1800 or so in skinny. Cruising at a GPSed 27 and top end around 38. Still stuck all three times I stopped yesterday at the Freedom Ride. A new prop is probably in my future but I have to move my exhaust to put anything longer on it. Is there a 2 blade option that would fit in my current hub? Thanks for the replies Rick

I have a 72 whisper tip narrow on a 0-320 angle valve and it breaks loose at 1600 and will run the hill with 4 people. Your prop is way too small and warps don't push very good. Try a 70" cypress or whisper tip and see what it does. Hell if you got room in the cage come out and try my prop, I would love to see what it does, although everyone says 72 is too much for a 0 320. I'm at 2750 with 12.5 degrees, pushes like a tractor.
12' Cut Gilleo, Angle Valve 0-320, 72" Whisper Tip. Goes wherever I point it. :florida:

I would love to try a few different props. With my mufflers where they are now the most I can clear would be about 64 in. That would only 2 in. To close for my taste. I need to redo my exhaust then I’ll be able to move up. Thanks for the offer though Rick
