Destroyed my prop

Post by ak375hh » Sun May 19, 2019 8:34 pm

I had a prop strike this weekend. First thing is to see about repair. I was running a 3 blade sensenich S 81” with a 2.3 belt at 1.75 mark (15.5 degrees) with a 580 hp 540 big block built for 88 octane. So I do not know if they make the S blade anymore, I don’t know if a repair is possible. I’m curious what you guys think as far as what prop you’d throw on the set up of the props that are available today. Whirlwind sw? Sensenich jx? Maybe 4 blades? Or just try and replace the S if still available or aren’t 2 months out for repairs, given the season. I obviously have a heavy boat. Comes in around 3500 lbs.

I could see the ramp when it happened. I idled a little ways then brought the truck to it.

The air cleaner stud snapped and it was the housing that went through the prop. Spendy lesson. Tether the air cleaner.

They do still make the S blades as far as I know. Did that one blade take the brunt of it?
If the other two aren't damaged, I would expect you could send them to Sensenich and have them balance a set with a new blade.
If your performance was not what you think it might have been, you won't get a better excuse to try something else.

In either case, I would call Darrin at Sensenich and get his thoughts. He will know your options off the top of his head. (813) 752-3711

Unfortunately they’re all damaged but yes, one is far worse than the rest. The one with a hole in it.

I see them still listed on their site. http://www.sensenich.com/product-catego ... s=s-series.

Probably should look at replacing your belt in the reduction. I had a belt pretty much disintegrate a few hours after a decent prop strike. I had thought I was done with repairs after I got the blades back. Boy was I wrong.

Good luck! Glad it wasn’t worse.

If all three blades are toast your probably gonna be told it is more cost efficient to switch over to the new small shank blades. They should work for you, my buddy has a three blade set up on a 514 inch pump gas roller engine on a 2.37 box. You will most likely find that they will spool up faster that's been our experience.
