An 80-100 gal tank is gonna run you around 400-500 for an aluminum tank.

Anyone who welds aluminum oughtta make fuel tanks.
They aren't that big of a deal.

I suppose a tank without baffles would be cheaper.

Cheaper is not always better.

Call Dean's Sheet Metal in Plant City and ask for Shawn. He built a custom 40 gallon fuel tank for me, and did a jam up job on it. Nice guy, and did it for far cheaper than anyone else that I could find. You won't be disappointed with the quality or price.

Heck if you want that big of a tank just buy an aluminum truck bed tool box. Weld in some cross baffles and then weld the top shut, problem solved.

Are yo going to be in FL, otherwise, shipping to IL could be a little expensive. Don Kirk and Dave Powell both build aluminum tanks in the Ft. Lauderdale area. The Waterwalker (airboat trader) website has a parts section and a service section where you could find what you want.
Many could live on what we have wasted.

That's the most awesome Idea I've heard today.
That would look so cool!

If you took that just a small step further, weld in some sheet tops just 3 or 4 inches under the lids, and your filler neck could be there.... Concealed.
You'd also have some storage room for hand tools or whatever.
Sometimes I really get to hating that 20 pounds of wrenches and toolbox crap up front.

Dang, that's a good idea.
I'm gonna steal it someday! LOL :)

I put a big truck tank in my last boat. 100 gals. New boat has a custom built tank 100 gals also. A buddy has a new boat being built with a 140 because his last boat (120 gal) was too small.

They already sell toolboxes like that in Texas at darn near every truck shop. The top 6-8" of the toolbox is for tools and the rest is a fuel tank. The true reason for this set up is so that you can run OFFROAD fuel without the law seeing a big tank in the back of your truck. They take the toolbox and tie it into the fuel system through the bed.

I must admit I love the big rig saddle tank idea. If you took a plasma cutter to it you could flatten out the bottom pretty easy.

Baffles do three things as I understand them.

1. Helps keep a half full tank of gas from sloshing all to one side. Possible shooting out a vent, or causing rocking weight nuisance. A full tank is not much problem, it's not a gravity thing - it's an inertia thing. Once the fuel gets sloshing, it can really slam around in a free tank.

2. Baffles are internal gussets strengthening your tank.

3. If you do them right (with the small openings at the bottom, medium openings mid way up, and leave a couple inches at the top for overflow while filling) they can help keep (heavy) sediment from reaching the area of the pickup tube.

I've never built one. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
