Airboat Hull discontinued "Stasall" anyone know where found?

Post by drew »

Stassal Hull anyone? I am not sure this is the correct spelling. If anyone knows how to spell this type of airboat please reply. I have seen a couple here in TX., however they are not for sale. Any tips will be greatly appreciative.

Bob Stossel passed away several years ago and his son Boyd took over the operations for years, but unfortunately Boyd closed the doors. The company name was "Airboat Engineering".

Stossel and kline where the two big Palm Beach Hull builders I believe . you can still get Kline to build a new one but be prepared for a long wait list.

This is my favorite Palm Beach Hull....
It's a Simpson, built in West Palm Beach, Fl. 1972
Image
Simpson can still do a hull.
B&J Customs out in Bassinger, FL. Long lead time.
Image

Here's the Black Pearl, it's our Kline built in Loxahatchee, Fl.Probably lengthy wait for one as stated above.
Image

Little George can still do a Palm Beach Hull. Stays busy. Could be a wait, perhaps not.
He's in West Palm.... Here's what one of hull rides looks like.
Image

Here's another guy started building some in Cooper City...
13 footer, fulldeck. Recently sold this one me thinks.
Image

If you got the money.. I think he's got the time.
Here's a linky with his number...
Just drop a dime.

Ed Froehlic just had his Stossel boat completly reworked by a guy who used to work with Stossel's back in the day. Ed told me the guys name but I forgot. I will get pictures of his boat and the guys name cause man it is a awesome job. Little George sounds familiar.

Gator Chaser, I think the guy yur talking about might be Little George.
I have not met him, but I think people said he worked with Stossel for the longets time.

GobblerD.
Thanks man!
That was our Old Man's Rig!
Weare proud of it, just like he was!

Continetal Cracker,
Larry from the website here told me those would run good, and they do.
Was'nt sure what mufflers to git, so I asked him what he thought.
He said he seen 540's in front of them, and they did'nt choke them down.
They're are compact, but not to small and restrictive.
We have those on two rigs, no problems!
P2 custom Built the mufflers on the Pearl.
They work good!

Hey Fish,
I could be wrong, but I thought Abner told me Little George built that one.
I do know Abner can build a good hull too. Just not sre how "into" the hull building he is.
But he can do it!

These boats have usually belonged to somebody for a liftime nearabout's.
Froehlic's boat just re-enforces that point for me.
It's almost always been that way.

The Green Rig belongs to Shorty.
He had a 180 Simpson Rig for a long long time before he built that one in the picture, and it was just re-done!

Salo built his rig in the late 80's I think.

The white boat we have belonged to Onion, and he smashed grass with it for about 25 years!

Some people freak on what one of these hulls cost, but the thing they may not understand is if you do git one, they can last a wise man a Lifetime!

Many who buy one, do it because they know what they want from an Airboat.
They probably figuring it'll be the last hull they ever buy.

In many cases, they are right!
DANG THAT PROUD OLD METAL GITS ME ALL FIRED-UP!
I'M GONNA GO CALM DOWN NOW!
SORRY GUY'S!

Hello, Cowboy!

I'm pretty sure we've met .. maybe in 2005? The "Black Pearl" certainly looks like my old "River Pirate" from Kansas. Looking great, now! Sorry we lost touch with you .. we moved shortly after you picked up the boat. Anyway, it looks like you've got her back in great shape! "Klein and Son" did an awesome job on that boat! Many fond memories! Lovin' that calendar photo! Funny how bikinis can dress up a photo! ;-)

Take care! Hope we can stay in touch!

Hey Paul!
Glad to hear form you!
Hope all is well out there in Kansas.
I was just telling a friend of mine your story with that boat on Memorial Day Weekend down in the Glades.
I enjoy telling people about your story with that boat.

The boat is doing good.
The polymer was rotten from the sun, so it had to be replaced right off the bat.
She was burning a tremendous amount of oil, because the cylinders had some bigtime bad rust pits in them.
We got a new top end on it now, and had the guards re-finished too.

Our Dad took the boat by Klines' place, to see about getting new polymer put on the hull.
When he saw the boat come into his yard, he came out yelling "HEY! THAT'S PAUL H's BOAT!" WHAT YOU DOING WITH THAT BOAT!!
My Dad was proud of that Boat when he got it. Bigtime!
He did not have it that long, 'cause he passed away un-expectedly from a heart attack 10-15-2005.
He was cleaning up his yard after hurricane Wilma passed, and the Lord took him like a bolt from the blue.
Here he is showing her off to his old Airboat Buddies. Proud as a peacock!
Image

I had written a nice article about the the story of you coming to Florida to get that boat, and He and my Brother going out there to bring it back to Florida.
I was gonna send you a copy of the magazine. I will have to dig around and see if I can find a copy of it.
I think I have one.

I'll send it to you if you like.

Let me know.

Great to hear from you Paul!

Stossel airboats and the stossel single airfoil rudder were designed and built buy Bob Stossel Sr. in the late 1960,s and were very popular and way ahead of there time and very expensive compared to other boats, so people started copying them, before that they were known as a Stossel the copiers started calling them a Palm Beach hull as the could not call it a Stossel, as for today's builders most all of them worked for Stossel if that tells you anything, and all of them took patterns off of a Stossel or a copy and none of them build a true Stossel.
The original Stossel are still being built today by Stossel,s in Mims Fl. Check out stossel airboats.com or Stossel Airboats on Facebook

All others are copies or a mere facsimile there of
And that's a Fact
