Update on Bullfrog Bud

Post by John C »

I have been in San Deigo for the last week. I got home early this morning. I recieved a phone call from Ted, one of Buds partners at his camp. Saturday night Bud and Nancy were at walmart and Bud fell in the parking lot and banged his eye up pretty good. He told Nancy that his side hurt, but he was OK and just wanted to go home. Nancy wanted him to go to the hospital but you know Bud, tough ol SOB. Well the next morning Bud was having some trouble breathing so they went to the hospital. Bud cracked six ribs and punchered a lung. He was in bad shape and very lucky that he got there in time. The Doc inserted a chest tube to reinflate the lung. Looks like things were a little touch and go there for a while but Bud pulled through and he is in ICU. Ted called me a little while ago and said Bud was doing better and he ate some dinner. He is still in ICU but it looks like hes out of the woods. I have not talked to him yet. I am sorry I did not post on this any sooner but that was the request of the family. I will post new info as I get it. Lets keep ol Bud in our Prayers and wish him a speedy recovery.

How on earth can a man crack six ribs and puncture a lung in a Wal-Mart parking lot?
I think where and how he fell needs to be looked at also. Is there a tripping hazard there?
Was there a driver involved? It raises some questions for me.

I mentioned this to my wife, a hospital nurse who sees this kind of stuff all the time. Her report was that she is not too worried, old folks falling and breaking a hip could be a fatal blow, but just ribs is no big deal (big picture). She thinks they'll let him out of the hospital pretty quick, and the real big danger here is that because it is VERY PAINFUL, there is a real risk of getting a physical addiction to the pain medication. Statistically, from what she's seen in her hospital. Just a little more something for those who offer some prayers.

So, HANG IN THERE BUD!

I'll bet he's a big flirt with the nurses when Nancy is not around! LOL

Heres praying the ribs heal fast. Im sure the hurt from the ribs is nothing to how seeing what has been done to the Glades makes hin feel.

Tough Old Men weren't borne tough, they grew that way because they needed to be tough to survive. I hope Bud never has to be tough again. Heres wishing fiar temperatures, light winds and a little water in the grass!

Heres to you Sir !

I just walked in the door, I had a long day. Still no update on Buds condition. I guess no news is good news, so they say. I will post again as soon as I hear anything further.

Best wishes and I hope he recovers soon. For the folks that are around him, make sure he does his rehab/breathing exercises once he gets released. Pneumonia is a real issue with broken ribs, and it sounds like bullfrog can take the bit in his mouth when he wants (no disrespect intended). Then again my track record for being stubborn about "little scratches" and such ain't exactly good either so I'm one to talk!

 Took Nancy to see Bud last night, he has been moved to a step down unit. He's doing much better and is eating solid food. He still has the chest tube in, but I think they may take it out soon if he continues to recover so quickly. He is sore and bruised up quite a bit but seems none the worse for wear, all things considered!!!! I will keep John C posted as I learn more. Ted

Hey y'all. Just got off the phone with John C .....
Bud is out of ICU and in a private room. He said he's wantin some phone calls from some Airboaters! Nuff said? The number is (786) 243-800 .... Room #2102
Nancy could probably use a few calls herself ..... (305) 243-5425.

C'mon now people. These two are kin folks to all of us.

Bud's number is 786-243-8000 Room 2102. The number you have posted for their home is incorrect, it is 305-248-2723 !! Bud has been sleeping late most mornings when they let him, seems they like to wake you at all hours of the night in order to check your vitals.
Also be aware it may take several rings for him to answer the phone. :thumbleft:
