wheelchair accessible airboat

Post by pax1ton » Mon Aug 30, 2010 10:31 pm

Looking for some photos of wheelchair accessible airboats ,
I have a Brother who can no longer run a normally rigged boat due to an accident that has left him paralyzed from the waist down.
,and we are looking for some pictures of airboats that are rigged for wheelchair access, folddown grass rakes to use for a ramp or anything That would lead us in the right direction to get him back on the water,
Thanks in advance to all who reply
Willie

Willie,

I saw one that Robicheaux made for a fellow needing the same thing. It had hand controls for the throttle and was pretty slick. I did not have a camera with me that day, but I bet they would be happy to provide you with some pictures. Hopefully you can come up with something that will have him driving like nobody's business and getting some wind in the face.

Here is what I found in the gallery. Would be cool to do an auto drop\lift rake on front, and a bimi top to keep him in the shade. Did his boat sell? I will help with whatever you need, I have a bunch of material here, when you need it, to get him started.

We want to build an aluminum hull boat with at least 22" to 24" sides, Boat will be run in the platte river.
did a search for melissa's boat ,found some info but no pics '
are you lockin the chair in place as you would in a vehicle ?
Also seen some pics. on here somewhere of a hydraulic operated grass rake for loading atv on a boat but can't seem to find em again.

Rasing and lowering grass-rake might be easer with an electric winch and cheaper too.

I saw an FWC airboat with a folddown grassrake for loading an atv on the front of it at the Broward County Airboat show this past year.
Not sure who built the hull. May check Diamondback or Hammit as they have built some boats for leo in the past.

I ride 3a 2a and holiday park. Wish I could hang with you guys and take some pics. My wife would have loved to take pictures of you guys sliding. She's a photographer and her family in Georgia runs a business that builds things so that handicap people can continue doing the things they used to before they became handicap. If and when I come up to Kissimmee I'll be sure to get in contact with you. Do you know of any guys down in south Florida that have wheel chair accessible boats?
