53 years old, 7th generation Floridian, born in Holopaw,Fla. was an insurance contract specialist, quit that to run heavy equipment, retired now and live in SE Georgia. Airboats have been in our family since the early 50's and alot of our family made there living giggin frogs and catching gators, there's nothing better then riding the river.

35 years old Florida Boy from Palatka. Married 14 years to a really understanding lady. 2 great kids 17and 11. spent the last 17 years in the Coast Guard. 16 active and still in the reserve. I'm a second generation Chief MK. Had my 100 ton for the last 12 years. Got tired of being a supervisor sailing a desk instead of a boat so took a chance and started a new job last year running really fast 4 engine go fasts chasing smugglers for another govt agency. The best decision I ever made. Awesome money to feed my outdoor habits and I carried my CG time for retirement. No regrets.
Cant remember a time I wasnt on the water in one way or another. People ask me how I can spend all week on the water getting beat up and then enjoy being on the airboat so much. Its easy. Anything you love is easy, or at least worth the work you put in it. I lived all over the US growin up but one of the best days of my life was crossing that state line southbound on 95 knowin I wasnt looking to do it again unless I wanted to. Looking forward to spending time with my kids in the woods this year....
My dads family was from Sarasota and they were a pretty wild bunch. Pretty much stayed in the glades thru the late 80's. I spent a bunch of time with them on tracks and airboats. Had the bug since. Vividly remember my first ride on a 11-12 ft lawson hull with a VERY mean 351w dd. You couldnt have chased me off of that boat with a stick. All those years on the water the memory stuck and when I had the chance to do it myself I jumped and havnt looked back.
I think most of the folks around here are the down to earth straitforward types that renew my faith in the race after dealing with the other types on a daily basis....

Great thread, I have enjoyed this.
I grew up on a cattle & horse ranch here in the sand hills of Nebraska. Worked at more different professions than I can count. Most for not very long. I then settled into over the road truck driving and being an owner operator. Got to go on an airboat for the first time in the glades on a airboat tour in the early 80's I was the only passenger and it was great. I spent 20 years driving coast to coast. I then went back to college and learned computer programming and networking. I worked as a college teacher for 3 years and then went into the private sector as a computer programmer and a network administrator for 8 years. The company got sold and I got put out of a job. I picked up another job a year later as a Software Engineer and been with them for 3 years. I work on an insurance rating and policy management system for an insurance company.

Also I am starting my own web based business so people can shop and have things delivered to their homes so they have more time to do other things than go shopping.

I am 60 year old kid and just got my first airboat a year ago and already wanting a better one. I have a 14 ft DD sbc 400 and run the Platte and Loup rivers here in Nebraska.

I am in my 19th year of Public Education, 10th year as a Middle School Principal. Happily married for 10yrs, been married to the same woman going on 15yrs. I have 2 children: a girl (6) and a boy (3). I have 1200 children from other parents during the week. My wife and I are born and raised in Palm Beach County. She's a nole and I played baseball for the University of Alabama in the late 80's. I have enjoyed Airboating for a little over a year now, and have made a couple of great friends because of it. I love hunting ducks and just about anything else that flies. Finally building a proper Cadillac and should be up and running again soon. Lots of interesting career paths posted here, but there is nothing like working with 1200 11-15 yr olds every day of the week.

I'll post up just because it sure is interesting to read evryone else's story..................
I'm a general superintendent currently building a 171,000 sft tilt wall project. Been doing construction for 30 years and I'm only 43 years young! Started with my Grandfather when I was 13 and worked with neighbors after school and every summer until I got out of high school. Couldn't wait to get out and make that money and barely graduated. Decided to try college because I wanted a career in Architecture or Engineering. Eventually came to the terms with myself that I had to work so much to pay for school (should have done better in high school)that I didn't have enough time to study, fish and hunt. So I dropped out of college a have worked construction full time ever since. Did some work in the Bahamas years ago and built numerous custom homes 8,000 sft to 30,000 sft prior to commercial work. I've been married for almost eleven years (tax day April 15th aniversary so I don't forget) and have two beautiful daughters. Madison AKA Gator Bait (9yrs)and Ally AKA Ally-Gator(8yrs) both are huge airboat fans and have been riding since they were three! My wife not so much anymore ( was all about going when we were dating and says she's given it her best), but she keeps us grounded as best she can. I've been around and driving airboats for 28 years mostly from down south in the everglades. My hobbies are my family, hunt'n, fish'n, hunt'n, fish'n and anything to do with the outdoors as well as keeping it available for our kids to enjoy as much as I have. This site has been useful and enjoyable. Thanks to Rick and everyone else affiliated with it as well as the airboat community who use it. I have had the opportunity to meet some great people because of SA. Keep up the good work and humorous threads! I hope to meet more of you all in in person.
Thanks,
Flip

Did I mention how I got the name?
I may hold the record for flip'n airboats in my younger days (no fear and lot's of beer) It used to be not a question of flip'n when frog'n, but how many times a night!:drunken:
Things change a whole lot when you are blessed with a great family! :) See ya'll in the woods!

Good posts. Just turned double nickels (55) January. Born and Bred in Michigan. Moved to Montana and lived there 4 years and got a lot of good hunting, trout fishing, eventually a wife and a BA in Marketing from the real U of M. Folks in Michigan don’t like when I say that. Followed it up with a MBA in International Management and today I run a couple of sales groups for a large electrical supply company which I have been at for 30 years. Seems like I started yesterday.
Pretty much live for Duck Hunting and Crow Hunting. Nothing is better than busting a few birds…….except riding my 1st boat which I have only had less than a year. Thanks to all the friends (Especially you Gary) who have showed me some of Florida, returned some of my PM's and thanks for a great boat Fran and Bobby!
