I am glad this was posted. Although I have owned an airboat I have never built one. After the new year I plan to start my build. The plans I have for the cage call for 1/2" EMT. Is EMT strong enough? Or do you recommend something els? All input will be greatly appreciated.

Emt in my opinion is strong enough. If its braced right and built well it will last a while as well. Im sure opinions will vary but me my father and grandfather have all ran emt riggings and beat them up good. Another plus is its cheap to fix

1/2" is fine for some of it, but you will also need some 3/4" for walk down and seat support. It wouldn't be a bad idea to use 3/4" for hoops on cage and rudder support.
EMT has been used since airboating began and will be around a lot longer. Just be sure to get complete welds on every joint to keep water out. Even a pinhole will let in water and it will rot out from the inside.

2010 Don Davis. Hey John, did you have any part in building this boat? Im not sure if the first owner had it rigged at Davis', or if he just bought the hull and had someone else rig it. The front seat was built with a quick disconnect system to interchange between a double or single seat, or nothing at all for hunting.

Brad Davis built the whole thing, I retired from Don's in 07, I do go by there and do odd jobs for him though, I definately remember this boat being built! Was this Wayne Gilbert's boat? Trying to remember who it belonged to.

Yes it was Wayne's. My pops has known him for years and bought it a few weeks ago. Wayne is building a car motor boat now. Our old white and teal Davis that I posted in the 'Don Davis Hull Pics' thread also use to be Waynes. I love the rigging on this boat, it's the perfect height...low enough to still be stable in canals yet high enough to see over the grass. Plus you can switch from a single front seat to a double very quickly.
