I had a similar email sent to me when I sold my offshore boat. He said the same thing and also stated not to sell it to anyone else and he would beat any offer. He said he would send a check and have someone pick up the boat. I took it to be a mass mailing done when someone posts on Craigslist. I don't know where you posted, but...

I used to get scammers when I put something on Craigs List. Now when I list something I always put CASH ONLY in the body of the ad. I have not had one response that was a scammer.

Exact same name has been e-mailing me wanting my crankshaft.Says he will pay with Paypal, sounds like BS there must be a scam to screw you on Paypal. I am going to disregard his e-mail Thanks jamesw245 we need to watch out for each other! Too bad scammers have to make us weary of other airboaters.

Cant tell yall how many scams are being played..

Someone decides to pay you for your item your selling for $1000. He says he is sending a check for $1300. This will pay for the item PLUS $300 to give to the friend picking it up. This will pay for him to transport the item back. You do just that.. Then the check bounces and you just paid $1300 for someone to steal your $1000 item.. This report has been written over and over and over in Brevard County alone.. Yall be careful on your sales.. Hope noone gets wrapped up in one..

You also have to be carful with certified check. My wife got one for a antique she was selling. She told the person the funds would have to clear before she would ship it. When she took the check to the bank they took one look at it and said it was fake.

I had a similar situation when I was selling my last boat, but when responded I like to keep things simple...you bring me cash, you get my boat. There was no response from that party, but another person did bring me cash, and he left with a nice boat.

Definitely smells!! We knew it was a scam yesterday, I got an e-mail asking about airboat sales, I responded, and this was his response.

"Thanks for your mail...I am willing to know the lowest price of it.due to the nature of my job and location...i will not be able to come for inspection,am a very busy type as i work long hours everyday,i have gone through your advertisement and i am satisfied with it.As for the payment..i will be paying you via the fastest and secure way to pay online(PayPal).I have a private courier agent that will come for the pick up after the payment have been made and cleared to your account, transferring the name of ownership and signing of all paperwork will be done by the courier services company agent so you don't have to worry about that...so no shipping included. You can now send me your PayPal email so i can pay in right away and also include your address in your reply. If you don't have a paypal account, you can easily set up one...log on to www.paypal.com and sign up. its very easy.I await your reply asap"

The FBI does investigate some of those cases where there is an actual victim, and where the victim reports the fraud to them. There is a code used when reporting to them, and I think it's "IC3". I also believe they assign your case a case number, but I don't know how many cases actually results in an arrest. I do think they have been successful in some of the Nigerian scams which are rampant.

ya that chris west is a scammer I got a couple emails form him as well , stay away.

papajack ,
most those scams don't really have a "shipping agent" they just get the extra money an disappear leaving the victim holding the bag

PROBLEM:

Most of the supposed "buyers" in the cases I worked were from out of country.. This is why they pay extra to have it shipped.. All addresses, all phone numbers, all fax numbers, names, etc... were bogus.. In my case, they called around to banks with a social security number, name, and info finding out who had money in their account by stealing their identity.. Then what they did was print out a very nice check from that bank with routing number and account number.. Looked real as HELL !!!! He called the bank and had the check run.. The clerk said that there was plenty of money to cover the check from this account.. So, he followed thru with the transaction.. When he took the check to the bank, even the clerk said that it was EXACTLY like their checks, but was actually a fake.. So, they could not cash the check.. So, he actually paid someone to steal his car !!!! Empty office spaces, fake numbers, etc.. It is getting out of hand. Ya'll please be careful. You would be amazed at the length these thiefs go thru, and they are good at it..

Please be safe this holiday season and hope everything goes smooth for all sellers/buyers..
