Lake Jackson (Tallahassee) Clean Up

Post by PeaRiverOpossum » Wed Jan 30, 2013 3:12 pm

Guys and Gals,
It is time to make a positive presence in the Tallahassee Area and Lake Jackson just so happens to be full of garbage. This would be a great opportunity for us to make a positive impact on our community as well as clean up one of our favorite places to ride. I am starting this thread to look for ideas and take input. We are going to tentatively schedule it for May 4th. I want to reach out to the airboat community and see what kind of participation we are going to get before going all out so please let me know (on here) whether you can come and how many will be coming with you. Also, pass the word to anyone that you know does not visit SA. And if you normally don't voice your opinion on the open forum, that is fine. Just shoot me a PM. :thumbleft: I hope this turns out to be successful!

Checked my schedule, i'm good for that date. I'll have atleast one passenger to help but more than likely i'll have 2 or 3 passengers to help. Aswell as anybody else i can pull from that Tally area that doesn't have an airboat.

Hey, I'm in if there is any water left at all. I ain't got no 4 wheeler ATV thing, but I will be there. Hope somebody catches them two water thieves soon (see other thread). Might want to talk to county about a recycle container also, I noticed a pretty good mess of aluminum cans and plastic bottles, etc.

Lake Jackson (Tallahassee) Clean Up

Post by bbb » Wed Jan 30, 2013 8:29 pm

I'll probably be there. Most of the trash I saw last week was on Brill Pt from the teenagers driving on the lake bed and parking. Not sure why they are allowing that.

I will have to wait till it gets a little closer to see whats happening at work but looks good so far. Would be 3or 4 of us on my boat. Never been there before, so it sounds like fun and a chance to meet some nice folks. Any rough details yet?? 1 day, 2 days, clean up and a ride?? i'm sure there are motels and stuff close to the lake??

There are hotels all around Tallahassee so lodging isn't a problem. And as of right now the plan is only a one day cleanup. I would say lets make it a clean up and a ride, but i don't think there will be any water in Iamonia by this time, and Lake Seminole is the next closest lake unless you'd want to run a river. But what would everyone else like to do? We're probably going to have to wait and see what the water levels of the lakes are like as the date gets closer.

This is GREAT! I am glad that this is getting so much attention already. :toothy7: It sounds like this has the potential to have a good turn out. We will continue to work on the details and keep everyone informed. Be sure to subscribe to the thread so you will get updates. Thank ya'll for your willingness to help. I have talked to several others via phone, txt and email that plan to attend as well. I am going to head up the clean up but Parker(LILMADDOG) will handle the following days ride. For those that plan on coming from somewhere distant and don't want to drive back, there are hotels close by and if the next days ride is going to be at Seminole then there are several places up there to stay on the lake. More to come! And if you are reading this and plan on coming PLEASE let me know so I will know what type of turn out to expect.

ATV will be no go on the lake bed. We use to ride out there all the time, but them they passed a ordinance not allowing it.

I am thrilled with how much attention this is getting already, but i must say i am thoroughly disappointed with the Georgia boys. Where are all of you? Come on guys this is the time to come together as airboaters and have a great time while doing a great community service. I understand the date is a ways off, but come on guys we have people coming from Pensacola so don't pull the "it's too far" card. Hope to see some more Georgia boys on this list soon.

As for an update on the ride: I will give an update later this afternoon when i am back from class.

Wow! It is awesome to see this is getting so much attention! Thank you BillCoon for the offer of lodging. Mrs. Carol, please continue to work on the S. GA. group. I hope we fill up the parking lot!
I will be working out more details over the next few days. Apparently, as I am finding out, there is a lot that goes into an event like this. I spoke to our magazines today and they will be posting it in the calender of events.
This is what I am thinking:
When:
Sat. May 4th
Where:
County Ramp on Hwy 27
Start time:
1200 (for those folks traveling)
Meet/Greet/ drool over boats
Cook what you bring. We will provide the fire (grill)
1400-till
clean up- In and around lake. (I will inquire about ATVs)
Does it really need to be more complicated than this? :dontknow:

Ms. Dixon I was only trying to get y'alls attention and hopefully influence some more GA folks to come on down. We are usually running up to their pond to see them. Your help in getting people rallied for this is much appreciated.

Big thank you to Bill for the offer of his cabin. I have been down there and it is beautiful.

The Layout sounds perfect to me. And lets keep this as stupid simple as possible. I hope we have the entire parking lot filled!

As for the Ride on Sunday. I think we should ride Lake Iamonia as it is another close lake that is a beautiful ride. But it may not have enough water in it to ride by May. So if that is the case we can ride Lake Seminole or one of the rivers like Apalachicola. If anyone has any input on where we should have the ride Sunday say the word. But for now we will plan to ride Lake Iamonia Sunday 10:00 am launching at the North boat ramp (Iamonia Landing Rd.) (if the water doesn't come up this will more than likely change.)

Kenny, I'm gonna try to be there ..... there will be work on the ground to do too, so I'd like to help.
I'll get hold of Ms. Bonnie at Marshrider for some coverage in the magazine, and find out who we need to contact at
a local TV station or two. Can't hurt.
Bonnie will know who we need to talk to at FWC ..... I'm sure that a one-day exemption to bring some ATVs
out for something like this will be no problem if we get hold of the right person.

Sounds like a cool project, and one that will definitely help put us airboaters in a good light up there on the panhandle.
