Meteor Hole / Lost Lake Diner / Gator Lake Questions...

Postby RAISEDnGLADES » Mon May 06, 2013 2:10 pm

1, Does any one know who the current owner of this camp is?
2, Does anyone know how deep that hole is? I swam down about 20 feet and a friend of mine went down another 15 and never got close to the bottom...
:dontknow:
3, Rumor has it there is a Full track sitting at the bottom of this thing :bounce: ... Is there any truth in that? Something like 15-20 years ago someone thought it was not so deep

I am inclined to take some tanks and see how far down this bad boy goes. I am sure it is dark down there if it is some 60-80 feet deep like I keep hearing. I would also like to know if indeed there is anything down at the bottom of the hole. Full Track or not, there is bound to be something more than muck at the bottom... I am trying to figure out how to see down there. High noon might help a little but anything past 40 feet is going to get dark real quick. And cold.

Don't even think about swimming down to the bottom. That hole is 90-100 feet deep. My dad was telling me that Wayne took a cinder block on a rope and dropped it in the middle and if he remembers correct it measured about 90 feet of rope. So my suggestion is to do the same thing with rope and a weight and report back with what you come up with. Now im a little curious as to it's actual depth.

Simple depth finder will tell ya. Maybe even some of the fish finders also.

Wouldn't it be cool to send a mini robot sub down with a light bar and camera ?

Too bad I'm not down there. I'd end the debate. Got a 7mm semi-dry suit and 2 100's filled with nitrox. Been to 128ft off west palm for about 45 min

Did some work for trans Canada 2 summers ago at 450ft. Not sure we could get that much support gear in the swamp. Might take some funding also.

90-100 feet deep huh? That is awesome!

maybe I wont be diving it. Some rope, cinder block and some beers sound like a better time. :drunken: That's crazy! 100 feet? wouldn't it be in the aquifer? I know it is not a spring, too murky. It could be a meteor hole but there is very little ridge to the lip of it... Could be years of water flow and rise and fall. not to mention boats and vehicles being around it. :dontknow:

We saw a 10 foot gator when we pulled in. He went down a while before we dove in to try our luck at the bottom. I doubt there is very much life at the bottom of this hole. I am still amazed someone is claiming 100 feet. Nucking Futz! I want to know. I wont be able to get out till the 18th or 19th but I promise one of those days I am heading out there with plenty of rope to see how deep she goes.

So, no-one knows if there is any truth in the rumor of a full track sitting 100 feet below the sawgrass? :?: Or an airboat? If I knew there was some long lost treasure sitting at the bottom of this hole I would find a way to get a pair of eyes down there and see what kind of condition it is in. :bounce:

MAYBE it is an old missile silo and there is a weapons system down there?

I do not have a depth finder on my boat, or a fish finder... I do not think I will have one anytime soon either. Any one close by have one? Maybe a hummingbird side scan hi-tech deal? Think something like that would give an accurate portrayal of the bottom? :thumbleft:

Heck, maybe you'd find Jimmy Hoffa !! Then, you'd be able to cash in for sure !!

I'm with Plum, that gator can keep whatever is at the bottom of that hole.

If you don't have a depth finder, a fishing rod with a fair amount of lead would be much easier than all that rope and a cinder block.

Wayne cone use to feed that alligator I believe that his name is moe
He use to come right up on the dock of the camp. From what I remember
I want to say the hole is some 90 feet deep so they say. And I heard the same story
About the buggy on the bottom but as far as I know no one has been to the bottom

Hello fellow members. Have not been there in probably 8 years. Funny this subject came up I was just thinking about it. I recall reading the sign in book when the camp belonged to wayne, that some divers from UF dove that hole and it was 86 feet deep. Mike, tell your dad I'm still running the beaver pleaser, (circa 1985-0540 powered) and he made the best boats out there!

86 feet huh.. There's not too much that my old man does not know about those everglades. Everything I ever ask him he has the answer. Glad to see your still running the Beaver Pleaser. Always one of my favorite names for an Airboat. Didn't my dad build a twin boat to it called "Numb Nuts" because the wide blade wood prop vibrates??

It's in the 90ft range. Wayne and Tom Shirley both measured it at one point or another with a block and rope.

So, is it 90 foot to the top of the full track then?? LOL.... That's kinda deep to be filming with a camera to see whats down there.. Cool to find out if it really is at the bottom.
