Area 3 closure

Post by 460 FULLTRACK » Fri Sep 20, 2013 4:41 pm

Just wanted to update everyone on the closure. Spoke to FWC today to try and get the most up to date info. As it stands now, they will be meeting next week to see if the area will open, possibly as soon as next Friday. That being said, if the rain continues as it has been, it's more likely to stay closed. They did not want to cancel hunting season in 3A if at all possible. Cross your fingers and do an anti-rain dance to try and dry up the area. Remember, if you have a camp in the area, you can get a permit to go check on it. They have been issuing them to camp owners since the closure began.

Yes, it's up 8" here at Old Glory. They are holding the water in 2A. The 3 gates are open to 2B but only one gate is parcially open to area 3. If we run out of rain, they could open 3A soon. It's the end of September and the rains are due to stop and the temperatures will start to fall. It's definitely cooler here at night and today was great.

By now, the people that answers the phone are sick of us airboaters. They did not create this problem but have to deal with many calls a day on the same subject. Army Corps. are to blame but don't have to answer to the public. It's like the waitress, she did not cook the steak but has to deal with the begruntaled customer.

Gerald, that's why I talked to them today to get the most up to date info. I've been hearing he said, I heard, I talked to for the past few days. I figured if I got the word out, maybe a few less phone calls to them. Also, the person that said he couldn't get a permit, you have to be listed on the lease to get one. And the website that was given is the correct one.

Also, I forgot to say that the water is not near normal as of today. It is still 1.3 feet above regulation for this time of the year. All this info is available in real time from the ACOE jacksonville website. Look for the daily graphs and you can find out the depth in any of the areas.

That's the way I read it. Just stay 100 yards away from levies and islands and have a gig and bag.

The closure is all about protecting the wildlife what little bit of furbearing animals we have left I personally support the closure 100% the process and how FWC evaluated and implement the closure process.

Thanks John for the report all the hard work and meetings you go to bringing our heritage with passion to the table for the EVERGLADES.

:rebel: There would not be all this high water if they would regulate it right and let flow, instead of holding it up. :rebel:

Just thought I would update everyone. As of today, the area is still closed. FWC will meet again on Monday to see if the water levels have come down sufficiently to allow the area to open and possibly have what is left of a hunting season. Unfortunately, if you look to the west we can see the rainfall coming down. And the long range forecast is not the best. Cross your fingers.

This one is for Area 2 towards the north east corner. It is up a good bit there now.
Sorry, I don't have any of the area 3 sites.

You may be able to back track from this one and find them.
