Heck of a Party last weekend -- Lots of Trash left on KCOL

KRVSA puts on an annual event to Clean Up KCOL and feed those who participate. The club works real hard on this.

Hundreds of airboats all over KCOL last Saturday. The Ridge, School-Bus, BS Hill, Yacht Club, Poluted Waters, Miles Point, North Cove, Brahma Island -- airboats and people everywhere.

Aluminum cans, plastic water bottles, glass bottles, styrofoam cups, paper plates .... lots of other stuff. Trash is still up and down the shorelines.

Anyone have any suggestions?

You would think if they are responsible enough to make the Cleanup Ride, they could atleast cleanup instead of adding to the trash. We pulled up on BS Hill around 12-12:30, and I had a half a trash bag full that I gave to some kids going up and down hill picking up stuff and doing a damn good job of it too. I didn't see much trash at other stops, but didn't stay too late to see the aftermath.

All in all I enjoyed the ride, and will do a cleanup anytime!!

Let me be REAL clear here - I am NOT speaking for KRVSA. I saw lots of "stuff" while riding Lake Kissimmee Saturday afternoon and we filled a trash bag in 50 yards at Milk Bus in 15 minutes after noon.

It's heartbreaking to see all the trash out there and to know it's all from airboaters. It will never end till untill they start catching Ass whoopings.

Unfortunately, trash comes from trash. As long as trash is allowed to operate boats ANY WHERE, the out come will be the same. It would take Law Enforcement to hand out a few $5000 fines for a single can, bottle, cup, plate, etc. that was thrown out by an irresponsible person to get the trashes attention. That kind of word travels fast. Law Enforcement says that they don't have the man power to do this kind of serveylance yet they have time to check our fishing license. They figure that a few will pick up after the many TRASH PEOPLE until ALL public areas are closed. :violent1: That don't make a lot of since to me because after ALL public areas are closed, they will be out of a job. That leaves only one solution, close ALL public areas to ALL of us and that will leave all Nature to the chosen few. :banghead: Freedom is not free so we must stand our ground and fight trash with intelligence. Contact our representatives in Tallahassee, tell them that we need laws to protect our environment from the TRASH PEOPLE.

Yes it was a great time! Amazed about how many cans, plastic bottles and stuff we picked up. At the bottom of the ridge we filled a garbage bag full. At Miles point there was 3 empty engine oil containers just left there, and the squashed beer cans was amazing. I understand sometimes a can may blow out now and then but half of what we picked up was dumped. Unfortunately I don't think there is a cure for it but we will always have extra garbage bags on the boat and I will definately will be back to the clean up!

Maybe make it an all day event so everyone out there could bring a bag in. As we were heading in at noon we passed a lot of boats heading out for the day! Just a suggestion.

Thank you Dave, KRVSA and all that genuinely participated in the clean up effort. There are a few items of note. To say there were hundreds of boats translating to several hundreds of people on the KCOL this weekend is probably an understatement. The Broward club also had a clean up effort recently and judging by the photos on a thread here they picked up more trash than we did with far fewer in "attendance". Of course another part of the story is also referenced in yet another thread on here ironically titled "KRVSA clean up video". The video is pretty cool and is receiving more attention than this note........but in the 8 plus minutes of video I can't find anything reminiscent of any clean up effort.

Jerry C,

You took the words right out of my mouth. !!!

I've rode Kissimmee and is a wonderful place to ride. I don't mind if you have a beer or 3, but take your $hit back with you and quit ruining it for the rest of us.

I also ride flying eagle and Potts and it sickens me at all the trash left in fire Pitts and around areas to gather and shoot the breeze.

Law enforcement needs to come out under cover and write hefty fines, then maybe some will get the message. About like drinking and boating.

I looked for a pic to post of the trailer load of trash picked up at the KRVSA lake clean up but couldn't share Bob' or Wayne's Filcker, maybe someone will post one. I was thinking Sat. looking at all the different things people left behind in our play grounds. With all of the GoPro's (and I'm getting me one soon) why don't we just video someone trashing and give it to FWC for prosecution. If they prosecute just one person word will get out. I don't want to see anyone get in trouble but you need to think of the damage you're doing. Its no big deal to just take care of your own trash and pick up something someone has dropped or blown out of their boat. I will say one more thing, its not just airboats either. I have seen hunters and fishermen trash also.

Someone had to see who was throwing out the trash! We all have cameras of some sort start posting the trashers pics. With that many fokes out that day some one could of took a pic. And we would know who to blame. If law enforcement gets involved no good will come out it. Those who can remember the west lake park marsh can tell you what happens when the law gets involved with litter controll!!!! And those of you who don't know of west lake park this can happen to places you now ride if WE don't take control of this problem fast. Just my thoughts !! Doug

I carry a big trash bag every time I ride and all the guys I ride with puts there trash in my bag. Every stop we make I pick up the trash I find on the ground. I ride lake Kissimmee a lot, if every one would do as I do we would not need a lake clean up!

Frog chutes and croaker sacks can be great designated trash bags. On my boat, most days, that's their sole purpose.

I'm guessing some folks just don't see a bag of trash on board making their ride look fast, hot or sexy -- I don't have the answers.

And, it's not only airboaters. C-37 from Hatchineha to Kissimmee looks like the roadside to a solid waste facillity. We could clean both sides of C-37 and fill dozens of trash bags.

Sooooo, I'd like to put out a thought for comment and input ..

FAA's Airboater Appreciation / Unity Weekend is already set for July 11 - 13 and the central location will be Miles Point. So, those who actually care about our future on KCOL could decide to add a personal, unofficial Clean Up to that weekend's plan.

It is a shame when you have an event like the Lake Clean Up and end up with more trash on the lake than when you started. Too many party animals that just don't realize what they have. It would be a great loss to loose a playground like Lake Kissimmee. You need to change the name of the event to Lake Trash Up! LOL

This is the very thing that got the Palm Beach County water Catchment area closed
now the tree huggers rule it and no Airboats allowed and now there is no place to go Airboating in Palm Beach county anymore that I know of they definatly need to get the trash thing under control or they will loose the areas to ride

More and more people enjoying kissimmee chain now. Younger generation too. I used to know people that threw garbage out while air boating and I can tell you there is no getting through to those kind of people! I have tried! All you can do is pick up after them and quit em! :bom:

What about assigning sections of lakeshore to a specific volunteer or crew of same, year round. In addition to Lake Clean Up.Just food for thought. :salute:

I fly out of Kissimmee airport daily as a flight instructor. I always look down to see all the airboaters riding around and wishing I could be out there with you. But I can also see the TRASH from the air too!! It's Not good and more vast of an area than you think.

I've lost track of friends while turning around to pick up trash in the glades. I'm proud to say there is not a ton of it, but we noticed a little garbage hole at the (swimming hole) last weekend. It's not there anymore. People were trying to do the right thing. Maybe y'all have more boats up there or more places to hang out. I think the old school guys keep the new school guys like me on the right track. Either way let's clean it up and the derelicts will fizzle out.

Lots of folks have their own reasons for attending airboat gatherings - those with a stated purpose and those that just kinda happen.

Some people are there simply to be a part of something, some are there to strut, some are there to sell, some are there to impress, some are there to establish a reputation.

All were there last Saturday because KRVSA has gone to the Supreme Court of Florida to fight for our airboating rights on those exact wetlands.

Jerry C. Renny, Jr. started he KCOL Clean Up under his Presidency, at a time when you would be put in Osceola County JAIL for riding that marsh. This is NOT a new problem and it can't be blamed entirely on young airboaters. We are all responsible because we tolerate it. If any one of a thousand of us thought a big Tom Turkey or 19" buck was around, we'd have the place covered up with game cameras. We CAN identify some of those thoughtless fools who don't pick up after hemselves. We don't need FWC to "handle" this.

Littering and trashing is a disease. An always fatal disease. It shows disrespect and total disregard for our lands and for authority. Most here profess to love airboating and the wetlands we glide across. We simply have to stop this behavior. Within ourselves and among others. We have no choice. Unless we want to take up golf and customize our carts -- Oh, that won't work because littering isn't allowed on the links either.

If I were KRVSA, and ONCE AGAIN, I'm NOT SPEAKING for KRVSA; I'd be insulted by last Saturday's effort and by the results. If every boat had just picked up one bag full .... there would hae been a huge improvement on the wetlands we love to slide across.

Very we'll said :thumbleft: And I agree, I too do not thinks its wise to get "Law Enforcement" involved, that will just eventually finds it's way up the chain to Big Government and before you know it.......NO MORE RIDING THE KRCOL! If you see littering, SAY SOMETHING, if you feel you don't wanna rock the boat or are just plain Skeerd, let someone else know who gives a darn! This has really got to stop, and it's true, it not just the young'uns.
We tote trash bags and do our part as EVERYONE should do so educate everyone you see to do the same then before you know it.......NO MORE TRASH! :salute: :proud: :florida: :rebel:
