North Florida Airboaters ride 8/16

Post by scottyroll » Tue Aug 05, 2014 12:08 pm

Hello N FLA Crew! Phil and I are trying to get another ride setup for next weekend. As of now were are planning on orange lake but I would also like to bring up that the Withlacoochee run off of the wildwood 75chrome shop exit could be a fun option too with the springs and all. Please post up here if you can join and what your preference would be. Anybody else who could join in def feel free to chime in.

How ya doing scottyroll? thanks for giving a heads up, never to early to make plans! I'll be there, and what ever the vote Withlacoochee or Orange lake, it doesn't matter to me.

I'm doing good just working @ Beaver Street Fisheries moving fish around the world 5 days a week and enjoying my weekends. Glad to hear you will join us. It's hard to beat a good day of airboating with friends!

We ride both area a lot. Withlacochee/ flying eagle is much more fun. Look at the two places on google earth. You can also run to loop, around 50 miles. Maybe someone can chime in on the water cam be tuff to get under the 44 bridge if the water is real high. There is a biker/ airboat bar in the eagle you can stop at for lunch.

Would meet and ride with you guys but have a fishing date with my daughter at the waccasassa.

Pm sent.

Thanks for the input thus far, guys. I used to ride off 44 all the time back when I lived in Ocala back in 2009. I heard one of the food joints burned down but the Dam Pub is still there. Is it possible to ride over from the Rutland boat ramp to hernando? I'm trying to get some long cruising going on for this ride.

Scotty, you want to do the river or go into hernado and slide on the lake and the flats? Makes no mind either way to me. Is there any skinny water running on the river?

My pops and I are staying in Bushnell for Labor Day weekend and bringing our two boats. Planning on riding Hernando for two days. Would like to hook up with some of you guys around there to show us around and ride. Been through that area on Harleys many times including stopping at Sleepy Hollow. Don't know my way around there by water.

Well I haven't been out to the Withlacoochee in about a year back when Mike sold his GPU boat; the river was down and fun to slide across. But my older brother told me that hernando was a perfect place to go sliding. That's why I want to see if anybody can tell me if we could ride from the river to the hernando area.

Brad, Google earth terrain filter should help you get the picture. The area is full of different twists and turns, high grass, airboat trails, vast open areas, springs and even a airboat ramp to bring you up over one of the dams.

There are several levi crossings and some outfall canals. There is a pravilian with a grill area if you want to cook something for lunch. If you don't know the area, you will miss a lot and get lost and turned around easily. I have been riding the area for about 4 years now. It is some good sliding. I just prefer lake George this time of year so you can swim. The Citrus County crew is awesome though.

You can go north past the springs, left headed south-west toward the outfall structural. Gotta climb the hill run 50 yards of dry and drop into hernando. Or go south on the river to the flats on right side then past iraqui island through the flying eagle to moccasin slough out to lake spivey across spivey to the canal on right under 44 right out of the canal across the lake to the canal that leads to turner camp rd. over the airboat slide and your in hernando.
