Lake Washington restrictions are coming!

Postby Waterthunder » Mon May 11, 2015 10:37 pm

I'm sure a few of you already know a lady has moved within a mile of lake Washington about a year ago and has been complaining to the county commissioners, sheriffs department and various government officials. She has some people looking into a curfew of Lake Washington and is using the Lake Pointsette curfew as a template. This is why the Sheriffs have been at the boat ramp looking at mufflers their not being jerks they are trying to protect us from ourselves. Right now her biggest complaint is Thursday nights I guess we will see if one person with money can ruin things for hundreds of people that have been doing the same thing for generations. I fear at this point mufflers will not be enough to prevent restrictions imposed on us. At the least if anyone cares please stand with the Brevard Airboat association and make your voice heard at any meetings held at the county over this.

There are signs by Poinset Lodge.

Lake Jessup in Seminole also has posted restrictions. As does Fox Lake park in Brevard. And I am sure their are more.

Keep us informed. We can surely out number her. The trick will be to make her appear as the problem.

Huh... Lived here my whole life and never even knew there was a poinset lodge :). But seriously, is the curfew just around the homes or on the whole lake? There are no other postings at any of the airboat launch areas at least I've never seen them and I've never driven down the canals with an airboat day or night no reason to. I know this was about lake Washington but I was kinda surprised to learn of a curfew on poinset lots of people on that lake all the time at night. Thanks

The sign I know of says no nighttime launching or loading. I think our savior there is that neither the landing on Florence or Lone Cabbage are on the lake. Then it lists some statute# if I recall.

Imagine that at lake Washington..... Scary!!

Kill her with kindness. Let her experience what we love to do on a airboat. Take her out on a boat show her the true Florida and then to the Thursday night event and let her experience it from our side. Hopefully next you know she will be looking in the classifieds for a boat with a understanding of what our culture is about. Just a thought...

yeah then push her off in front of a hungry gator :dontknow: feel bad sounds like you are going through what a lot of other have been through real nice to go to a meeting where they don't even hear the side of air boaters before they make their decision. Good luck.

Surely the problem lies within a few airboaters, It figures that someone would eventually complain, I dont see how a mile away the noise level is loud enough to cause her any issues , even straight headers it shouldnt be that loud. Do the restrictions as stated above about poinsette strictly adhere to launching and loading ? Hopefully someone doesnt decide to pull in front of her house and shower down on the trailer lol . J/k

hey Hog Guts, that curfew is not for the Lake it's only at that little area leading up to the lounge area, there are a dozen or so homes in that little stretch of the water :) there is a line of homes on each side of that little area, that's why there is no nite launching there......

Just keep runnin' them loud and proud, boys. We don't need no stinkin' mufflers,
right?
Go for it. One of these days you'll be tryin' to find somebody out-of-state where they
can still run airboats to buy your rig. JMO

When the tour was done she looked me in the eyes and said thank you. I fully understand now and that she has a very different outlook on airboats now. She even apologized to me for all the airboaters she had caused problems for. I say give it a try. It sure won't hurt. Also I'm here to fight with you. If you all need anything that I can help with please let me know.

That's a great story.
My last boat was very quiet. You could sit on plane and talk, and there wasn't ever a reason
for ear muffs. If you haven't ever run an airboat that way then you don't know what you're
missing. It's very cool.

The technology is here ..... you just have to give a damn and want to do it. :glasses7:

Maybe we should get the fwc, sheriffs dept and all parties involved and make ONE set of rules to follow!! I don't mind complying but it would be nice to have everyone on the same page. just saying.

I haven't had an airboat since the 70s, and even back then your exhaust had to exit the hull.
No mufflers were required, but if you didn't have flex to get your exhaust to the outside of the hull
you would/ Or could get a ticket. That may be a CG reg.
If the south would'a won we'da had it made!

yes. he said the exhaust must exit outside the boat. since the engine is outside the actaul hull,(meaning above it) it wasnt very clear, but argueing the point will get you no where ,so i signed the ticket.
