Longhorn Custom Fab?

Post by JTodd1976 » Tue Jul 28, 2015 2:22 pm

Hey Guys,

A buddy of mine is evaluating a lightly used Longhorn Custom Fab boat.. Any experience / feedback on this particular builder? Their website is fairly light and I haven't been able to locate a tremendous amount of information on their boats.. Any information would be appreciated!

Appears to be a very clean well maintained boat. Engine specs are a bit lacking outside of "LS3".. My understanding is that it is a crate motor, no details on injection system. See link below for specific boat.

Question for you to answer. Knowledge obtainable.
1) .125" sides ?
2) 3/16" bottom? .125" bottom not acceptable.
3) does the hull leak?
4) what shape is the polymer? UHMW polymer?
5) Will she run dry? Don't mean hit the sand bar at 20mph and spin her around. Will she run dry?
6) what recuction ratio? 2 to 1 not the best setup for that boat, JMO- might cost you later trying to obtain better ground running ability??
7) How many T-bars and how far they spread aprart. Less than (9) full length??
T-bars spread apart too far and bottom will cup upward inbetween t-bars if running dry much.

8) Fly before you buy. Put her through the paces. You don't give her a test drive, nobody to blame but yourself if she has issues.
9) you buying someone elses headache???
10) all boats not created equal. How is the one you are looking at created??

Bare aluminum hard to maintain and keep looking good. Again, JMO-
Is Longhorn still in business?

3/16 bottom. 1/8 sides
7 t bar
3/8 poly
2.3 to 1 ch3
Factory Chevy fuel injection
No leaks
Owner says it'll run dry, but that's to be seen.

I have looked over Longhorn boats before. I met the man who was owner/builder of Longhorn. Forgot his name. Seemed he built a fine boat. :)

I looked at the link you sent... LS3 but with a two blade prop??? indicates to me that it does not have much torque or hp. 2.3 instead of 2.68 drive? LS engines like rpm to produce power...

34k... not cheap... 7 t bars.... not heavy duty bottom. underpowered, crate engine not built for airboat use, boat builder out of business or not much business...... all negatives... what are the positives to offset them?

I don't know anyone that likes to have an under powered heavy "Texas" airboat that is underpowered....

You can buy a new hull for 8-9k built stout, a new engine/drive/prop for 20-25k, uhmw.... 2k, seat stand and cage and rudders 5k, have a 2015 boat that performs 10x better.. for not much more...

Call Shane with Dyna-Marine for a quote... or get quotes on new ones from other builders...

Remember, your main cost is the difference between your purchase and sale price... You pay more for a 2015 Dyna, but not that much, but your VALUE when you sell is way more... And you will be 100x happier with an airboat that is not under powered.... (I run a 4 blade on a similar size boat)

just my 2cents..

Ty Fulmer is the owner operator. He built my hull and its held up good and does get abused sometimes. Idk bout motor prop box combo but I've had 2 hulls from him with ZERO complaints

Not being a fan boy either, just my experience
