I got a letter too a couple months back. Markel isn't insuring watercraft in south Florida either according to their website.

Re: Charter lakes
must be they are looking at highest claims areas, and being florida has the most airboats naturally the most claims, it appears that a lot of claims are stolen airboats.flydock wrote:They no longer insure airboats at in south Florida.

Just maybe the insurance folks are seeing all the racing and alcohol use posted in the photos and videos.

Pat, being my hull is homemade, the only quote I could get was from Alan Bates @ Markel American Insurance. Not sure if your hull is a manufactured hull or not, but Markel wrote me a policy back in June

I haven't received my cancellation letter from Charter Lakes...yet. Hopefully I won't, but if I do, I will be looking for another company for coverage.

Re: Charter lakes
I think only broward and fade county may be affected.
Re: Charter lakes
It's not just florida its airboats period. I'm in tuscaloosa alabama. I'm the only person around that's ever had airboats, no claims or anything but they still told me to kick rocks
Re: Charter lakes
Just got my cancellation letter from Charter. Apparently Travelers, who is the insurance carrier, has decided to "limit it's exposure to airboats". They did quote me a new policy through Markel though. It's actually cheaper but I need to look at the fine details and compare to what I had. I'm in north Florida so it doesn't appear to be just a south Florida issue.

Re: Charter lakes
Thing is travelers would let u get any amount of coverage u wanted. Markel was double priced for me and they said your boat is worth this much and this is all u get, and each year the coverage is less an less because the boat loses value. I just said I'd do without

Finally, got my cancellation letter effective 12-13-15. Apparently, no other insurance company will cover a boat with a pancake cage, so I'm done with them all!

They know it's an airboat? Wouldn't think gieco would touch 1 if they knew what the boat was

Re: Charter lakes
My charter lakes policy was $601 a year for 22000 coverage. 300k uninsured boater and liability. That's pretty hard to beat. no claims. Probably why theyre not insuring anymore. Too cheap and too many claims.
