Yeah, a lot of good that will do, let's just close our playground so the wild life can drown in high water, while we can do nothing for our stress, go figure who the H--- is coming up with this BS

The executive order is in effect. Holeyland, Rotenberger, and 3A north and south except for the area south of the Alley and east of the Miami river to the L-67A levee are closed. I got them to leave that portion open so some riding can be done. Also 2A, south of the East West trail is open. It will be on a day to day basis until the water comes down and not an automatic 30 or 90 day closure. Let's hope for some dry days ahead. The lake is dumping water east and west and the sugar cane fields are harvesting and sending their water south. You will need a special use permit to access the area until the order is lifted. Unfortunately, going to camp for recreational purposes is not one of the reasons to get one. You can go on to the FWC website and look under executive orders to see the posting.

Who do you have to contact to get a special use permit if you're a camp owner? And what is a legit reason to be able to head out?

Here are some exemptions…you can still frog.

(3) This order shall not apply to persons permitted to participate in the Python ChallengeTM, migratory bird hunts, frogging, or persons operating boats within the established canal systems. Access for these activities is limited to vessels only and participants must maintain a minimum distance of 100 yards from any tree island to minimize disturbance to terrestrial wildlife jeopardized by high water conditions.

A friend of mine was at Schmidt aviation yesterday having his boat worked on when two game officers walked in. He asked them about the closing of area 3. They said it was a rumor and the area is open. Their web site said it closes on January 30. The game officer must have missed the notice or have not checked their e- mail. Air boaters beware! Run at your own risk!

Years ago, my family and I were harassed by the Marine Patrol (before FWC), about oystering in an area that was closed. They detained us for close to 30 minutes, only to be told by dispatch that they didn't know if the area we were in was closed or not. The moral of the story is, with all the laws & regs on the books now, it's difficult for Johnny Law to keep abreast of the closures etc., you need to be more informed than they are. You don't have to be an azz when you let them know they are wrong, but if they want to prove it otherwise, take em' to court...

Are you sure on Miccosukee closing today ? I did not receive a phone call today. Last time they closed it down they gave us until Saturday night at 6 to secure our Camps.

WCA3 is still closed, except for camp owners. The water has come down about 8" but the trails are still vague. South of the Trail in the ENP, the water is up about 6".
