MotionX GPS for your phone

Postby Hog Guts » Sun Feb 07, 2016 10:41 am

Just wanted to show how we use the app when riding, fishing, hunting etc. even for the wife to know where I am when out by myself....(sometimes it doesn't work?)

It's a good app, go buy it so they stay in business :)

HG are you running this only on your smart phone, or from a wireless bluetooth GPS connected to your phone?

I use the "Skipper" app. It's free and does pretty good. I don't think you can track your buddy's like motionx though.. I may have to try it out.

How do you see your friends. Through e-mail and they must have the same app?

Live on the map. It updates about every 15 seconds or whatever frequency you set it to

Where does the code come from? Is it something that you and friends program in? Can it be turned off? Don't need Gerald getting all my frogging spots.

I've been waiting for something like this. This just saved me over 600 bucks because I was about to buy the maps and marine Garman gps for our fishing pontoon. Thanks for sharing Hog Guts! I will let you know how good it is for marking fishing holes and nest.

Yes, you chose the channel in settings

Yes, you can turn it off and on.

It is great for airboating since nobody hears their phone while riding but you can see where everybody is.

Honestly, I own 3 Garmin handheld GPS units. One with downloaded aerial maps for everywhere I hunt, ride, fish. I bing it as a back up, check the batteries yearly. Haven't used since I learned how to use Motion-X.

You can also share tracks and waypoints securely among friends. I have a buddy who went to a week long camp/fish trip through Florida bay/Everglades. He sent me his whole track when he got back! Awesome!!

Also, somehow, once you have downloaded a map and leave the app open, it knows where you are even with no signal. Worked in deep and remote valleys in the Rockies.

Truly amazing!!

I asked MotionX support if I could use MotionX on my android and received this reply;

Hi Rich,

Thanks for contacting the MotionX team. It's possible we'll support the additional mobile operating systems down the road, but MotionX GPS and MotionX-GPS Drive applications are presently only supported by Apple devices. If you'd like to receive our latest announcements, visit the MotionX News Site or follow MotionX on Twitter at http://twitter.com/MotionX.

All the best,
Kenneth Smith

In short they said no! Thanks MotionX! :bootyshake: :bootyshake: :bootyshake: :bootyshake:

Rich, you know you don't need none of that 'high tech' crap anyways. You been talkin' to Steve Reid again? That brother must have enough drones and stuff by now to deliver for the USPS.

Go to the sporting goods department at Walmart, get yourself a good magnetic compass, and gitter done man!

In the picture it looks like Satellite Imagery. Is that an extra map you purchase because I just have a topo map with mine. Thanks in advance.

Just like google maps, you select aerial map, it defaults to the moron map. It has the detail and efficiency that you are used to with aerial maps on your phone, just with the addition of every feature I have ever seen on a GPS plus some that no other GPS has because it is integrated with your phone. No extra purchases. I gave $1.99 years ago and that's it!

I got it. I just didn't play with it long enough. I use the Garmin ALPHA and ASTRO dog tracking units about everyday but love having this on my phone. Thanks

We usually use channel 32955 (Rockledge zip code) for non-covert missions like airboat rides and will be on the radar at Kissimmee next week.
