Merle Haggard

Post by Cherpa » Thu Apr 07, 2016 12:33 am

Country legend Merle Haggard, often called "the Poet of the Common Man," whose music reflected his hardscrabble roots and hard-living ways as well as a tenderness that made him a revered songwriter, died Wednesday at his home near Redding, Calif. He was 79.
We grow too soon old and too late smart.

He'll be missed. He was one of my favorites for most of my adult life. Rest in peace, brother Haggard.

Johnny Cash done right by Merle and Merle certainly done right by Johnny Cash. It was only by the hard work of Johnny Cash that we ever heard of Merle. Most know the story. Never heard of Merle into anything that made him look bad and never heard of him talking bad about anyone else. A real ICON of Country music. I will seriously miss the man and his music.

I like the part where Johnny Cash played his first-ever prison concert on January 1, 1958 at San Quentin—a concert that helped set Merle Haggard, then a 20-year-old San Quentin inmate, on the path toward becoming a country music legend.

One of the greatest songwriters of all time...Merle's abilities were respected by many great songwriters, from all types of music.
He had an astounding voice. He died on his birthday.

This is but one of his many masterpieces..

Merle greatly admired Lefty Frizzle.
Here he honors him by doing one of his great songs.

Merle nails it.

Hey Cowboy. I have a question for you. Do you like Merle Haggard?
