You really need to elaborate on what exactly you are considering in order to get useful input.

If you are thinking of putting a SBC on the hull you have, you're better off with what you've got, IMO.
If you are going to re-use your current hull, a carbon fiber prop upgrade may split the difference. :dontknow:

Or, are you going with a new/different/bigger hull? If so, what size?
Is what you're entertaining going to be DD or would it be a gearbox?

Not to be nosey, but what kind of budget do you anticipate having to work with?
Realistically, this is more than a passive consideration and may limit your options as well.

once you cross over to a CM boat don't come back - say goodbye to your woody!! :stirpot:
He'll cut your throat, baby, stick you in the back, drive off in your Cadillac.
He's more trouble than you think, he'll kill your sugar, leave you in the drink.

maybe you can just do a few things to your 220 to pep it up a bit. like some pop up pistons or a new prop or both. that would probly be the cheapest route.

I've had both ac and cm boats, and it's hard to beat the simplicity of that 220!!!

Doing the same thing but for a larger boat not a 13ft but since you say it I have a 13ft gilleo with a nice dome top piston 220 that I will tell you right now come ride on it I will show you why you will want a 220 with dome top pistons on a 13ft boat over a car engine I only want the car engine for a MUCH larger hull. I am going to sell my current boat once I know whatever I get is dependable cause I have gator tags.

I have a 72 ngq on mine set at 2-1/2 it turns 2750 rpm this has dome top pistons and a holley 500 ultra pro carb. Go this route you'll be happy.

I have a Signature Series for a future build that may now go with a box.
I may consider selling it if you are interested. You can send me a PM if so.

OMG.....Deano talking a gear drive?

What's next a roller cam :stirpot:

For a bigger boat a CM is wonderful and like anything if your dealing with junk it doesn't matter if it is AC or CM it will be misery!

My engine isn't junk by no means very fresh engine. Just don't know if that would have pushed my bigger hull with some authority or not. Currently run an older gore hull which I know is alto of my problem , which wont let me run any dry too well,

Mike, keep your engine and go with an adjustable carbon prop.

You should have plenty of longevity left in that motor and can make the switch to CM the next time around since you can build your own rigging.

The larger gillio hull will displace more weight when running dry and will be more stable in the water; 13' is a great choice IMO

I remember running a 72 32 paddle wood that was a DD 350
that was my first boat spun that up 2900.

I had 3 different wood propped boats before I went aircraft that's when I got a carbon fiber prop thats were its at you will love them.

All I have to say is don't fix what isn't broke a good carbon prop will make a huge difference and up grades . I have seen alot of bad a$$ aircraft boats and alot of bad a$$ car motor boats . You need to do what you want but if I had a good motor and new hull I wouldn't change now . JMHO .
