BRAB brothers coming to FLA for a visit in a month or two?

Postby Brotherbob » Mon Aug 01, 2016 5:52 pm

Hey folks!

Me and my buddy HASBEEN are gonna come see FLA in a month or two, aint set a hard date yet as we wanted to get some input from ya'll.
Gonna drag our heavy ass car barge ,rock knocking ,beat up old boats with us and wanna ride some. Oh yeah we are brangin' our wifes too, for some much needed vacation time.

Anyhow , we have a spot to stay in Pampano beach and it looks like LOX , 2A is 20 miles close and I hear ya'll talk about it?

Maybe we can ride , drank a beer, eat too much and have a good time with ya'll? If there is a air boat club, party, show,etc- that wants to adopt a couple of rednecks with beat up boats and purdy wifes that might be cool? We can tell tall tales and let you laugh at our misery!

We have a buddy who says the skeeters will carry you off right now and we should wait until NOV? We were thinking more like Sept-OCT?

I'll check back with ya and see what ya gotta say.
Oh yeah BRAB = Brazos River Air Boaters our lil Texas river airboat family.

October 1st AAOF is having their annual Fish Fry and Poker Run. Located 7.5 miles west of SR 997 (Krome Ave.) on US 41 (Tamiami Trail or S.W. 8th Street).
We grow too soon old and too late smart.

The fish fry poker run is a great ride :thumbleft: and 3a and 3b are just across the street. There is easily a couple of days of riding if the weather plays nice :fishing . I would be happy to ride with you , we could figure it out better once you know better your dates? The sketters can be managed with bug spray and such but let's hope the Zika don't become and issue lol. :proud: :usa:

You can`t believe most of what Brotherbob says.....his wife aint mean, and his ole boat prolly won`t even survive the road trip. :dontknow:

If anybody is willing to educate us on any of the required restrictions, rules, or lessor known requirements to run our boats in that part of the world.... I would appreciate it.

If our boats/trailers are legally registered, coast guard approved/equipped (with Fla required flag)
are there any hidden boogers? Permits? Stickers? Permissions?

It`s not the uncertainty of new or unfamiliar water that give me pause....it`s the unfamiliar customs and laws.

Several years ago we took a 450 mile Airboat trip in 4 days, but Brotherbob will tell lies about it to this day :banghead:

We were riding as the "Home Team" in a 100 yard wide river, going south to the coast....no problem.

Since laws and conditions vary from state to state, I`m trying to cover the bases.

Once we arrive in Pompano Beach, I`ll be like a lost ball in tall weeds......somebody chime in and straighten an old fellar out :violent1:

I would be more than happy to show you around 2A. I launch from Lox when I go out and my camp is a short ride from there. I'll guide you over to Old Glory camp and we can sit on the porch and have a cold one with Gerald. You will love it. Of course, you can't miss Willard's, Boars Nest or the plane wreck while you're out there. If you're here, as Cherpa and Lilly said, don't miss the fish fry/poker run. Good time! Plus, 3A is not to be missed. The most beautiful riding in South Florida. I live in Coral Springs, which is 10 miles west of Pompano Beach and a short drive south of Lox Landing. Keep me posted on your plans and we'll make more concrete arrangements as time gets closer.

I saw a thread about FWC closing the Glades....this info might have been inserted by GladesCat ?
(I`m not smart enough to "quote" in two different threads) :violent1:

Permitted activities by vessel only…no airboats.

News Release
Thursday, September 08, 2016
Media contact: Carol Lyn Parrish, 850-556-2269
Due to recent storm events, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has temporarily closed several activities and roads in the Everglades Wildlife Management Area until further notice. Fishing and other specified activities will remain open.
Public access to the interior of the WMA is prohibited, except Conservation Area 2A from the L-35B levee north to the east-west airboat trail, and Conservation Area 3A South, east of the Miami Canal between I-75 and the L-67A levee. The closure applies to vehicles, airboats, all-terrain vehicles and any other public access, and will remain in effect until further notice to ensure public safety and resource conservation.
These closures do not apply to persons permitted to participate in the statewide alligator hunts, migratory bird hunts, frogging, fishing, or people operating boats within the established canal systems. Access for these activities is limited to vessels only, and participants must maintain a minimum distance of 100 yards from any tree island to minimize disturbance to wildlife. Usage of airboats or tracked vehicles is not permitted for these activities.
Additionally, taking of game, as defined in section 68A-1.004, Florida Administrative Code, is prohibited, except certain duck, coot and snipe hunting, and frogging. Those activities may be conducted in accordance with 68A-13.003, 68A-13.008 and 68A-15.004, respectively.
If you have additional questions, contact the FWC’s South Regional Office at 561-625-5122.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My best guess is that this conservation act will last for a while, and keep the area that we thought that we could run "off limits" if we came down in mid November.

Any thoughts.....

I reckon I could call the number listed and get the "Party Line" or the Political answer, but I figure Airboaters prolly have a feel for how long this "high water" dilemma will last

Don't worry too much about the glades closing, there's millions of acres all across
florida that only gets better with high water and won't close.

And 2A is open south of the East-West trail, which means it's pretty much all open. Not too many people venture north of the East-West anyways.

Like Cherpa said the fish fry is still on and that is some of the best riding for sure. Not sure about area 3 (hope they open it soon I have gator tags to fill there), but I suppose we need some dry weather to start. Funny thing is it's a water management area so they have a lot of control over how much water is in there
