Problem with mechanical oil temp gauge????

Post by Salty Techsan »

man... I've had nothing but headaches with the gauges on this boat. I got tired of issues with electric Daria gauges, so bought and installed an Isspro mechanical oil temp gauge.... Nothing to it, sender wire factory attached to gauge, and sender probe screwed right into bushing at bottom of oil pan on my 220 GPU. Ran her for 10 minutes and gauge never did anything. Got a boiling pot of water and dropped probe in there to check it and nothing again. Any ideas??? Seems unlikely that I got a completely dead gauge out of the box, but who the hell knows?

Any ideas greatly appreciated! Kyle in Texas

Sounds like a ground/contiuity problem. ?
To open ones eyes, you must let them see!

You can't kink or do sharp bends with mechanical senders

Either you broke it on install or its a defect.
The ISSPRO temp sensors have a longer than usual temperature probe. I busted one screwing it into the block as it bottomed out and I kept cranking away and crushed the bulb. I have seen all brands kink or leak at the sender line. Its a real fragile tube.

Thanks for the responses. I wouldn't think improper grounding could be an issue since only electrical part of this gauge is the 12v backlight. Right?

I was very careful with sender wire, and no visible indication of probe being damaged due to excessive length? Weird.... Maybe I really did just get a bad one?

Anybody else have any ideas?

Electrical connections besides the light has nothing to do with a mechanical gauge.

The tube is ultra fragile, your new to dealing with it and my bet is 99% sure the tube was damaged especially if you fished it to a panel or console.

IT IS NOT A WIRE BUT A FRAGILE ULTRA THIN TUBE THAT BREAKS REALLY FREAKIN EASY
