Lycoming o-340

Postby John Taylor » Tue Mar 14, 2017 8:05 pm

:rebel: Ok, so the lycoming o-340 produces 170 hp with 8.5:1 compression pistons so what does it produce with 9.5:1 pistons????http://www.southernairboat.com/phpBB3/posting.php?mode=edit&f=2&p=677730#

More :thumbleft:

If it were purely a mathmatical equation:

Compression ratio times a constant X = Hp

So

8.5X=Hp
8.5X=170
X=170/8.5
X=20

So

9.5X=Hp
9.5(20)=Hp
190=Hp

So if it were purely a mathmatical equation, the 9.5:1 pistons make a 190Hp motor.
Of course, I have no reason to believe it is that direct of an equation, but thank for playing along!

Any number of folks on here say "the prop tells the tale." Or words to that effect. Short of that or dyno testing, it's a crap shoot as to HP.....first liar loses.
Compromise is failure on the installment plan.
