Central FL Hovercraft Cruise

Postby jchovernut » Sat Apr 01, 2017 1:43 am

The annual Central FL Hovercraft Cruise, sponsored by the Hoverclub of America, is once again going on this weekend at Ft Lane Park. We will be on some organized cruises up & down the St Johns from Puzzle Lake to Sanford, but in between, we'll be playing around on Lake Harney near our base of operations at Ft Lane Park.

Come by to see these unique flying machines up close, & if you ask nicely, you may get a demo ride ;) We have visiting hovercraft from as far away as Ohio, & several local & State participants.

More info can be obtained from the Hoverclub of America:

Kinda short notice. It would have been cool to see. I was a HOA member many years ago when I worked for Scat Hovercraft. I also raced them and one of the Locations was in Troy Ohio.
Have a great ride.

Sorry for the short notice, Glades. I had he flu leading up to the event & planning suffered as a result. I always schedule the hovercraft cruise for the weekend prior to Sun-n-Fun so out of state participants can attend both events easily.

I'm local to Lake Harney, & there are a few others nearby that are getting up to speed on their hovers. So, we'll be cruising around periodically throughout the year.

Worked at Scat, eh? I'm friends with Kip McCollam, the Brit SCAT Designer. I tried buying my 1st Scat in Idaho in '87 or so when I was a Navy Nuke Instructor in Idaho Falls. Local motorcycle dealership had one that was busted. I could've gotten it for a song; they didn't have a clue! Well, I stupidly told them what was wrong & they fixed it & sold it before I had a chance to pick it up.

Cheers!

As some of ya'll may remember, I sold my airboat and got a Hovercraft.
Well my first one was under powered and sucked more fuel then I could keep in it. Anyway I have since built a Sevtec Hovercraft with a 25 h.p. Kolher engine on it. I am still working the bugs out of it, but we made the Hover cruise, this was our longest time out with it and it did really good, except my tall windshield kept acting like a sail and spinning us around 180 degrees if I got to far sideways and since Hovercrafts slide sides in turns, this became an issue....lol

anyway I made some Videos, they are long but show the Cruise event from on board the Hovercraft.
Enjoy.
