New to Forum

Post by Capt. Purvis » Wed Jun 14, 2017 6:31 pm

I am new to air boats and just found this site. I am a sixth generation waterman here in Eastern NC and have been a full time Charter Fishing and Duck hunting guide for over 25 years. I am tired of my jet drive. It is constantly sucking up shells and it does not get me and my clients to certain areas at low tide. There is no bottom in some of my locations and you skink to your waste when you step off the boat. I would need a commercial type vessel that could take around 6 people. I have a Master CG License but checking on regulations for airboats now. I am also going to have to rig up a jack plate with a 20 hp 4 stroke for getting around the marina. Trolling motor will not work. Any recommendations for a good and honest dealer is greatly appreciated.

Welcome.

Lots of good info on here. Use the search function a lot as just about any question you could ask has been. Lots of great info from some very knowledgeable folks in the "archives".

Hey Capt. P

check out my build thread i just started(http://southernairboat.com/phpBB3/viewt ... =2&t=70339) My needs are much like yours, i am a duck hunter and Kenny over at Circle H has gone way above and beyond to help me get what i want. A custom build from bow to transom.

over the years i have had jets and mud motors and sure they have their place but once you try an airboat its going to be hard to switch back. 6 people plus gear is going to be a big rig. i hope you like Horsepower :)

Diamondback Airboats builds the best industrial Airboat out there if you were wanting a ride boat then there are a few other good ones out there like Hamint, don't really understand why you need a out board around the Marina at idle speed you should not have any problems bothering anybody with prop wash, If you want to get certified as an Airboat pilot I am a U.S Department of Interior Airboat operator Instructor and thats currently the only Government certification offered, If you need any advice on how to configure the boat or what power plant to use be more than happy to help you with that, I'm thinking something on the lines of a bowfishing boat configuration would be what you need and a LSA or LS motor would be the best for what you need
