I prefer the rear driver for the simple reason the operator is responsible for his passengers safety and needs to know what is going on at all times.

A front driver is great whe you are riding solo. Rear driver is great with passengers.

It’s about balancing the load.

I have owned both and I think I like my front driver better..... probably.

I don't think there is a fit all answer. I just rebuilt my boat and had to ponder this same question. Froging would be a lot easier from the front, as you could use a shorter gig pole which would put you closer too them. The other advantage is you are not looking around anyone.
I went with rear steer, I've been sitting in the rear for over 40 years and I couldn't bring myself to change now. I like being up a little higher, I like being a little farther from stuff coming off the grass rake. And personally I like the look a little better. I was a little concerned about balance as I run a 11 foot boat and went from a 4 to a 6 cylinder. I'm not having any regrets yet.

Rear driver for me so I can see the kids at all times, you never know when kids will fall asleep or reach in the cage, I always hated having to keep looking back to make sure they were still in the seat especially if it was rough running.

Rear Driver, Have the front seat low enough so that the adults have their shoulders about level with your knees so as to not obstruct your view.

:rebel: back seat could have some advantages though ,you would have the front passenger to cushion your landing after you play pinball :thumbleft:  :rebel:
