New poly

Post by Danruch50 »

Ok so I had some new 3/8 poly put on my 16x8 Alumitech hull that would run dry no problem. Put it in my yard today and it was stuck like chuck. I’ve got no idea what to do. Going from being able to run the hill to acting like it’s stuck in black mud. Please advise.

Motor turning the same rpm’s? Any prop adjustments done?
Every time I’ve changed mine it’s been slicker than owl **** at first. What’s the poly look like?

It’s black 3/8. No motor or prop adjustments at all. Looks and feels slick as shit but it’s acting sticky

Maybe you got a flat spot on your hull...after the old polymer was taken off..did they weld the old holes up? Something there may have changed...

I'm thinking the hull changed shape.

Yes they welded the holes up. I’m going to get it about half way on the trailer and see what it looks like. Gonna take it for a run this after noon and see how it acts in water. That should tell me a lot. I’m hoping when they made the bottom “true” again they didn’t go too far the other way.

Was the motor removed when the boat was turned upside down to redo the poly? Thrust angle changed?

You have added weight and with 3/8 usually the countersinking can be set deep which sort of acts like a cheese grader on a heavy boat grabbing ground. It can get better as dirt or sand packs in around the screw heads and the poly gets scuffed. Most likely as stated prior when your poly was applied the hull or poly itself could have changed the bottoms shape and put a wave in it.

If you have hull jacks you could try adding a slight amount of downward pressure and see if it helps. If it does then you have a clue. My experience has been Poly does not like to run hot so if you were riding around the yard a bit warming it up then got on a patch of green grass that is like glue.

If it was bolted with washers and poly nuts that full sheet of 3/8 and the hardware added a lot of weight to the boat.

Thanks y’all. Took a ride today and she just needed to be roughed up a bit. Could use a few more miles of a heavy foot and dry ground but it ran right on the trailer today no problem. Thanks for the help :florida:

I didn't read any help offered or applied to resolve the issue?
There are a ton of bad bottoms out there that some think jacking can resolve but I have never seen or contributed to a poly job with the motor on!
I guess krayhammer has access to massive forklifts and turnstyles to lock a boat in without removing it's motor or warping the new poly to it's new home?
Gotta wonder how anyone could post if you removed the motor to do new poly!
Is that even an option, regardless of thrush angle?
